buttman, no. no coughing, never stalled on me. the only time it backfires is between shifts when I'm getting on it pretty hard
You are fine. Don't worry about it or you'll go nuts. Get out and ride.
I agree with Terry! A few coughs is normal for a Harley. Especially when it's hot! One thing you can do to improve is to add a Screaming Eagle Race Tuner (SERT), then have it redyno'd. You'll see a significant improvement in performance. Plus, virtually no coughs or backfires!

Let's get out and ride!

Ok,, after all the posts about fuel injectors on the 06's ya'll got me listening really close everytime I get on the RK lately. It's got stage 1, pipes, K&N, and been Dyno'd. It's my first HD so I don't know sh%t about what's right or wrong. It starts fine, runs strong, only an occasional backfire, like maybe one or two in a couple of hours riding. I gues from now own I'll just pass up reading anymore injector issues until I actually have some. Time to shut up and ride. It's gonna be another great day here in north Ga. RETIREMENT IS COOL!

uhmmmm ????????? are you a glocker ??????????

Terry said it right. If your getting on it hard you're doing it right . Happens from time to time with me too. NO big deal, its when it does it all the time that you should be worried. Now go out and beat it like a rented mule!

Reading the forums without a healthy degree of skepticism will have you biting your fingernails off and you will be paranoid in the clinical sense -- unjustified fear. I've noticed that most of the guys who talk about problems are the one's who've done major mods which require different efi maps, dyno tunes and $$$$. I'm not criticizing anyone who wants to do that because it can be a lot of fun tinkering with motors for performance, especially if you're a racer. But most of the people who just ride, leave the bike stock or near stock, do regular maintenance, seem to have few problems.

Take the cam chain tensioner issue, for example. It wasn't on this board, but on another one, that everybody was talking about how all the Twin Cams are melting down due to the cam chain tensioners and Harley was conspiring to cover it up. It scared the hell out of me since I'd just dropped a load of cash on a used Road King and I was still reeling from the shock of that. But I could only get one person to say they'd had any first hand knowledge of a diagnosed stock engine failure due to cam tensioner disintegration and even then it was a "buddies" bike. The best info I got was reading Don Peterson, who writes for American Iron. Turns out this is a problem with hopped up engines with high-lift cams and the extra strong valve springs required for them at high rpms. In other words, its an issue if you're planning on pushing your engine into the stratosphere above 100 horses. If you're putting along with the stock Harley or minor mods, you're probably OK.

Ride more, worry less

I was asking myself the same question with my bike... As it turns out, I was not being paranoid. The bike was running hot. If I had not had the forum info, the bike would probably still be at the shop. I baby my ride. Wash it, listen to it, check the oil, feed it premium, all that stuff. Paying attention is cool.

Don't be paranoid, just keep an eye on things. It is scary sometimes when you read some of the bad experiences or problems... When we are all out riding, you don't see all those posts, cuz everyone is in the wind...

Even with the issues I had, frustrating as they were, I would do it all over again. I love my ride. I rode it to work this morning, and it makes for an awesome way to start the day.

Cheers!

Gostaz,
Don't get me wrong. This forum is awesome. I've learned 10 times more by being on here than I would have anywhere except out riding with other Harley riders. There is an enormous amount of collective knowledge here. I'm just saying that you have to read discriminately or you'll worry yourself to death over every little thing. There's tendency to assume the worst when usually it's a minor problem that can be fixed easily and cheaply. BTW, hope your problem didn't cost you an arm and a leg.
