The dealer should have put the pigtails on at PDI... My dealer told me it was part of every touring setup per HD. I watched them install them on my 09 RK and no issues...
Do yourself a favor and install a battery harness and then you can just plug in the battery tender inbetween rides - this is especially nice during the winter months if you are a year-round rider. If you have a audible alarm, it will sound off when you disconnect the negative terminal. If this happens just turn your key on and off and the alarm will turn off and you can finish connecting the harness. You will have to re-set your clock any time that you disconnect the battery if your bike is equipped with one.

plug on the other end .

Just did my 09 Ultra with the pigtail harness. Battery is not technically unhooked when you do the install. Dealer just gave me instructions NOT to put the pigtail next to the battery terminals....do the install to the outside of the existing nuts....simple when you look...

I hook My battery tender Positive clamp to the hot wire on the starter solenoid and the negative to one of bolts on the tranny. Works great and I dont have to mess with additional wiring.
Tell us which way you went. I hooked mine to the battery and it's worked great for years and years. Never even considered going to the starter solenoid and ground off the tranny. Let us know.
