Just out of curiosity, I went out to the garage to look at my 09 Ultra's brake and clutch levers after reading your post. My clutch lever is much more dull than the brake lever! I never noticed it before, and my bike hasn't been in for the 1000 mile service yet. I'm now going to have to switch out my levers for black ones...thanks for helping me notice something that costs me money! No kidding tho...mine are different too...go figure?
Hey man do me a favor and pull in your clutch lever and tell me what the production date is.
It should be inside a small circle mine is saying 0/7
You should have gotten the managers attention before you took the bike out of the shop.
Who is to say you didn't do it yourself on the way home? (their defense, not mine!)
Chuck
thats what the wife told me but if I can prove that the parts numbers are different they have no defense.
Harley doesn't make their own brakes, just happens the vendor does a really nice job of polishing the levers before they send them out. Really sucks cause all Harleys have dull looking clutch levers
You really shouldn't have to prove anything. Geez, you bought your bike there and dropped 20+K, now they're going to doubt you on something this simple. But I'd walk in the showroom and look the ULTRA's sitting on the floor before I go high order on them.
Kinda what I was thinking.
maybe it got scratched or broke and he just grabbed one that was lying around to cover his butt.
I would not be all that bothered about it if the bike was not so new.
I have worked in dealerships before both as a tech and service manager so I have seen this kinda thing happen.
I ordered an 09 Road Glide and will see when it comes in if they are different.
Is the contour of the lever different as well as the finish?
Also try some FLITZ or SIMICHROME polish on the levers. This stuff really shines all types of metals amd removes oxidation and protects the metals longer.
My current 08 Fatboy has the aluminum levers and the FLITZ really polishes the finish.

Okay, now that you have all us '09 owners running out to the garage to see if our clutch lever is dull compared to the brake lever, I can't tell the difference! They look the same pretty much. Now I'm gonna take it outside in the sunlight, wash it and take a reeeeaaaal close look. I see another sleepless night ahead.....

OOOOPS! sorry man
While your looking at it can you tell me the casting date.
It should be a small circle with a date inside.
Thx
My 08 RKC is exactly as you described. That was the way it was delivered to me. I wouldn't be to quick to accuse. If you've spent time in the business as you described you know that people generally look their bike or car over very carefully after they have it worked on. Maybe you just didn't notice it.

Okay, just washed the UC. The stamp says 07. Is that a real mnfg. date or just a number of whatever. The clutch lever has a definitley brushed aluminum look as to the polished chrome look to the brake lever. It took a bit to tell the difference but it is there. Look at all the work and money you're costing me. Now I have to go out and get a polished chrome clutch lever. Anything else look amiss to you? Tell me now before I go to the dealer! At least I have a clean scooter now. : )
