I think it's a difficult question to answer, based on my readings. I have a dipstick that also measures oil level - love not having to pull a HOT dipstick out and check for oil level - I recommend it. My engine temps have ranged from 190 deg F in the winter (after a 30-50 mile ride) to a recent 210 deg F during a 65 deg spring day (yesterday in Penna after 100 miles). I know that once I get into stop and go traffic, the engine will approach 230 deg F - I'll hear it begin to stumble on idle. I'll report back then.
I have an oil temp guage in my faring and using Amsoil synthetic oil, you are right on the temps! Average around 230. A hot summer ride in stop and go traffic will produce oil temps as high as 250+. Not to worry if you are running 20W50 synthetic.
My StreetGlide temp. gauge runs around 230F. after a long ride. Check your owner's manual for the Heat Management Temps. Above 266F the idle speed is reduced in the first phase of heat management. My Sportster runs hot at 225F.

Just my $.02 in most combustion engines your main concern should not be temp. The result of temp problems comes from pressure. That HD temp dip stick is useless, if your pressure is low you will have high temp. Basicly use a good grade of oil.
Agree on not too much issue wth temps...have seen baggers run 300 in traffic in 110 degree heat...it's air cooled! Use synth 3 or another synth, change at 5K and ride on.....the LCD dipstick is usless...can't see it underway and when you stop and look....kinda late (if it is a concern at all)....the scoot will run fine hot...it' supposed to!
One of my best additions to my '05 RK has been the LCD Temp/Oil Level dipstick. Although I agree that the oil temp function is pretty useless, the oil level display certainly is not! I'd hate to count the number of times I burned myself and dripped hot oil on the exhaust when checking the oil level before I had the dipstick. It's a shame the damn thing is so expensive - for me, however, it has been $$ very well spent and I highly recommend it.
