Glad you didnt' get taken out with that tire and are ok.
I ran over one of those black holes one night in my Jeep Cherokee going south on I-95 to FLA. Was like 2:00 A.M. and I didnt' even see it. But when it went under the Jeep I thought all h3ll was breaking loose. Almost lost control of the Jeep and just about went off the road at 70 MPH.
A class 6,7,or 8 truck blowing a tire is a SERIOUS and very dangerious situation!...
I drive an 18-wheeler for a living and cannot tell you how often I see cars and motorcycles just stay and travel by the side of my rig.
When you see ANY commercial rig on the highways, STAY AWAY FROM THEM! Put as much distance from them as you can. Either pass them quickly or stay behind them at least 2-300 feet so if anything happens you have enough time to react.
I remember reading years ago, a world traveler said "trucks kill" . It was a woman(she was a truck driver) and she said, get away from semi's as fast as you can. That has stuck with me over the years. I never lurk beside or anywhere near one, I gas it going around them and move as far away as possible when passing. JMO.
Three weeks ago, while getting ready to pass a semi, the left front outside trailer tire blew. I got off the gas and swerved at the last second, but the tread still hit the left side crash bar, floorboard and my foot. It wound up knocking the spring off the jiffy stand as well. I pull off at the next exit to recover. It was a long three miles back to the house trying to hold up the stand with my foot and ride at the same time.....
"The reason there are so many retreaded truck tires on the road relates to an exise tax from the Clinton years that adds $100 to the cost of NEW truck tires and doesn't apply to retreads."
Thanks for the info on that, TN Houndog. Now every time I see road gators on the highway I no who to blame! LOL
