Default '09 rkc

Ok, I know some of you out there are going to be irritated with this question which I'm sure has been asked before, so here goes... I currently have an '05 1200C which is no picnic after about 4-5hrs so I was considering adding an '08 RKC to the fleet until I read/heard about all of the problems of overheating and the rock-tumbler trans.
So, has HD ironed out all of those issues for '09? I had an opportunity recently on an '03 RKC but decided to wait it out. If this topic has been posted already I would appreciate directions to it.
Thanks.

I ride a 2008 FLHR and am not familiar with any overheating problems or any transmissions issues? Where did you read about this? I have about 12000 miles on mine and with the exception of the fuel canister issue, I have not had any issues with mine.

The 03 would not be a bad bike to be on with low miles as 03 was basically before such deep EPA involvement which is totally responsible for the heat issues besides the heat issues can be addressed on the 08's or 09's. I had an 03 Ultra, great bike, many times I have wished I had just held onto it. Now have an 09 Ultra with also no heat issues but will add pipes, AC and Power commander and this will go even further elimitating heat. Also no issues with the 08's or 09's as far as transmission is concerned since the IDS was added as standard equip in 08.

The only overheating issues I've heard of is on the early injected bikes that had a programming issue. Mine is one but they've never done anything to correct it and I only have trouble after a long haul. They can re-program it.

Movin from a sportster to a RK is like going from a peddle car to the space shuttle(JK). You'll be completely happy with any of your choices(03-09).

5th gear on early 6 speeds had alittle noise but not really an issue in 08-09.

Heat issues, Ya they run the engines alittle leaner causing a heat up. Heat-up=100degree days in stop and go traffic. But over-heating havent come across that at all.
09's come with parade mode= shuts down the rear cylinder at a stop if head temp reaches a certain temp. Havent rode one yet to see if this is the cure all for air cooled engines.

Good luck!

I joined this forum in the middle of all the "overheating" and "transmission noise" stuff. I also bought one of those terrible 07s with all the problems.

Guess what . . . 13K miles and no issues since doing a stage 1 upgrade and an oil cooler.

I'm hearing that the 09s are the best touring bike HD has ever made. However, that doesn't mean the you won't need to do a stage 1. The EPA rules are only getting tougher.

Liquid cooled touring bike for sure by 2011 . . . just my opinion.
