Default Slam Away.....Motor Color

I hate the color of the motor on my standard. I love this bike and everything about it, but.........the motor color. I am almost ready to buy a SG just to get the black motor.

What can I do?

Thanks

Well lets see.............. maybe PAINT your motor. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Brilliant idea. It's not that hard to do. Just few beers and a couple hurs time and 2,3 cans of high heat paint. And when the paint cures just sand of the cooloing fin edges and DONE.

Sorry you feel that way. I actually really like the light color of the engine. I believe it is similar to the color of the engines on the Screaming Eagle bikes. However, I do prefer the engine color with the chrome on the rest of the engine. I believe there is a H-D upgrade available, would that help you like the engine more or was that part of the draw for you to the Standard?

Hope you are able to find a solution you are comfortable with.

What he said! I did it once to an AMF era Superglide and it worked fine. 1-2 cans of wrinkle black high heat paint should do ya. Either tape over the fin edges or apply a light film of petroleum jelly to them and paint over the whole thing, then after it dries, wipe away the fin edges.
I think if I remember correctly, I painted the edges too and it looked good with all the chrome around it.

I know what you mean though as getting the blacked out motor definitely steered me away from the EG models, even though I was leanin' to the FLTR anyway..

Way back in 85 the new baggers didn't have the black motor or the chrome. Well, when I got my new white and gold 1986 FLHTC I changed all of that. Some high heat black paint and a little chrome work and man oh man what a difference. Try it you'll like it! I DID.

As a previous owner of an FLSTC with black crinkle paint on the engine, I love the smooth silver color on my standard. That thing was impossible to keep clean. It didn't take long before the paint started to chip off on the leading edge of the cooling fins or where rocks would hit it and it started to look like crap. If you got some wax on it you were screwed.

Besides, you cant see the engine when you're riding it!

Lets see. From the first part of your post, are you trying to be a dick? If so, well done. Second part, thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

As far as the rest, thanks

Pull the jugs, have them powder painted to match your paint, then get the fins diamond cut. Cheeper than a new ride and better lookin than most.

First off, all motors from Harley 1994+ are powder coated. Your engine is silver powder coated. High heat paint WILL flake off at some point, and it will look like $hit.

If you want it black, you don't do a cheapo job. Pull the motor, have the jugs and cases powdercoated black. Do yourself a favor and don't try to half *** your Harley.
