Leather Chaps?
I have a set of Kevlar chaps with knee/shin pads from Colorado Chaps. Great for summer, suck for winter. Just got a pair of quality leather overpants off ebay for under $100 otherwise, I was about to bite the bullet and go with Fox Creek.
Leatherup.com, an HD Forum advertiser, is tough to beat for quality for the price. I just snagged these chaps for $69. They're heavy, do a great job of keeping wind and debris off my legs, and helping me stay nice & warm in to cold & the wind.

So far, I've bought 2 jackets, the chaps, and some leather gauntlet cold weather gloves from Leatherup. All of them are awesome quality for the price.

If any of you that need chaps are planning a trip through Oklahoma there's a place called Oklahoma Cross Country Leathers that can't be beat. It's a leather shop in Beggs, OK and they hand-cut, hand-sew and custom make chaps. They start at $200 but are the thickest leather I've ever seen on a pair of chaps. The back belt is laced in and can be changed as you get fatter or skinnier. Just thought if anybody is coming this way it would be worth a trip to their shop.
I have the delux HD Chaps and love-em. They have good deep snap-close pockets on both sides as well as a deep thigh pocket. Outside pockets come in real handy on chaps IMO. The other great feature is a double zipper system which gives me the option of more leg-room when I'm wear'n thermals or the flannel lined Carharts. They definitely ain't cheap at $250 but they are exactly what I wanted so I ponied up te $$$.
How do you wear out chaps without going down on the pavement? I have a pair that I have had for about 20 years and they look about the same as when I got them. Of course I only wear them when it is really cold and that is not very often.
I think the leather pants that have leg zips almost all the way up, like Langlitz westerns, would be the way to go if cost is not a prime consideration.
