Default saddle bag guards

Hi

I own a new 06 Street Glide, Its been out a few times, just love the bike. I have not dropped yet, but I have thinked about It.

My question is this, this is my first bagger as as you know the SG does not have the saddle crash bag bars, nice look but.... If and When you lay down your bagger where does it touch, obviously on the front crash bars but i wonder in the rear. Would It rock on the saddle bag If you do not have the rear bars

I've seen pics of bikes with the rear bars still scratching up the bags. It really depends on how the bike falls. Having the bars would still allow additional protection. I feel that these bars are more for protecting the rider than the bike itself.

Would not take much to wreck the saddlebags. If you want to add rear guards you have to replace the bottom support brackets as well. The SG brackets will not work! The new "comfort profile" rear guards look pretty sharp.

I thought about it before too...but since then, I have slow dropped my ride twice -- while parking -- and it fell over and never touched the bags.....so, I figured..I'm okay without them..sure,, they look nice and all, but are only designed for light impact - i.e. drop...

why buy more chrome for it ($$$) and have to worry about scratching the dang things?

As stated good for slow or dead stop drops but not much protection if going down at speed.

Been there, know that.

Ride safe,

I am going to take the chance that since I already dropped my previous bike a few times ( Honda Shadow) then I am caught up for a goos while.

It is the look that YOU like. I see your guys bikes, and I really like your choices both with and without. IMO I lean towards them just for the mental peace of mind... but if I was into that clean slicj look as with a SG, I would have to think twice...

The guards do a good job of protecting the bags. They are cheaper to replace than a saddlebag if necessary.
