Default Primary Derby Cover

For the riders who replaced the torx screws on the derby with hex head screws. Did you use 3/4" long screws and if so, did they bottom out before tightening?? Yes, I'm using washers.

I replaced mine tonight with chrome hex head screws and there is a small difference between these and the stock torx heads. One screw was bad or was possibly a metric and would not thread in. I have to get it replaced tomorrow and didn't torque the rest down yet but it appears that the small difference may bottom out the screw before it's torqued correctly.

i took my old torx bolts with the washers with me to Ace Hardware. Matched the length with some chrome allen heads bolts with chrome washers. don't remember the length, but ended up with the identical length as the old ones.

Actually it's 1/4 x 20 x 5/8 Allen heads. 1/2" will work, but will not hold as well.

3/4" is awful long for derby cover screws.
I believe they're 1/2"...1/4x20

I thought 3/4" were to long after matching them up to the OEM screws......the 5/8" length is the same as the OEM bolts....I will be getting those.....Thanks for the info everyone....

The parts manual says p/n 1062 is a screw, 1/4-20 X 5/8.

Thanks for the info on this and posting it, I am looking to change mine out also, I don't know why Harley has put these on this cover and everything else is a Hex Head Bolt.
