Default Running rough

2005 stock ultra. Got a new set of Screamin Eagle pipes and since on there I feel the bike runs rougher and can actually hear I think somethin shakin in I think the bat wing. I did not change the air cleaner and no remap or anything. Is is common for things to run different when just pipes are changed..I have been chasing the rattle for a while and am at the stage again of opening up the fairing and start looking for anything that could be hitting in there. Sounds like plastic to me but am far from a wrencher..Anyone wanna jump on in..I look at other bikes idle and mine seems rougher and when rolling I can then hear a rattle..Pull in the clutch and it seems to go away..Is the engine causing this or should I ignore it and ride..As mentioned seemed to start when pipes changed.

Should not run rougher if pipes are installed correctly.

Undue tension in the system somewhere transferring vibration, which would otherwise be rubber-isolated, to the frame.

Default Could it be

A bad front motor mount...I read a bunch on here and have seen this mentioned..Also read about the run out on the crank..It runs pretty smooth but when at idle seems to bounce pretty good at the mount but have nothing to compare it to..i hear a vibration and it sounds more like a rattle in the fairing but hard to nail it down as need to be riding it to getthe noise. i have opened up the fairing and do not see anything out to lunch but may need to again..perhaps also looking for something hitting the fairing inside like a cable or some wirres..The noise to me sounds like plastic on plastic...But if it is then why...Crank..Motor mount...Another rider rode it and said he thinks its running rough..But if thats the case, what can be adjusted..i put new plugs in and will be swappin wires as well...But can not imagine that this is causing it..HELP.

May have nothing to do with the pipes check the fairing mounting brackets and the speaker supports brackets. if they are broken it is obvious and they do break (more often then dealers and MOCO would like to admit) besides my own I have already repaired another 7 for friends.

Default Any thoughts to motor mount

Whats the take on the motor mount, and is there a way to tell if its got an issue. As mentioned it bounces a fair bit. Motor in my mind runs fairly smooth but the more I think the more i question if I can feel vibes with feet on hiway pegs. The rattle almost sounds rythmatic at 50 mpg in 4th and say 2400 rpms but not only heard then, but most noticed then. First snow here today so whatever i play with can not be tested..Bummer..

A broken engine mount is fairly obvious when you look at the mount so since you have the time to do it take a good look at it and since you seem to have already laid the scoot up for the winter if you get really bored one day just pull the the thing out and bring it into the igloo so you can get a really good look.

Default Fishing here

Got looking at something regarding what is causing this rattle or vibration. The exaust from the front cylinder swings down and goes across the chrome cone looking rig by the floorboard. I think its touching and think it should not be...But if its not then what holds it out from touching or where to start adjusting from to get it away. As mentioned I installed slip ons myself but did not have anything undone up there...But dealer early this year had exaust all off on that side checkin the cam chain tensioners so I suppose that may have something to do with it.. Anyways still lookin for suggestions other than fairing brackets as they are okay it looks like to me.

Right! It is most likely the vertical black brackets that hold the radio and all that aother stuff. They break at the top. I had it and it drove me nuts looking for it. Look right at the top of the brackets. You need to take the outer fairing off. You'll see.

Fix that and then see if the "running rough" still exists? If it does, look to use some Permatex around the outer flange of the pipes to seal the pipes where they slip on. then use new Tourqua bolts and tourque them way down tight!!
