I put the Harley lowering shocks on both my bikes and it made a significant difference. The ride characteristics are not affected and I can "plant" both feet now. It is also an easy job to trade them out.
Don't know how much you want to invest in time and $ but you can get shorter shocks, and lower your front with a lowering kit for your forks, you can also put lowering blocks on the rear (don't us aluminum use steel) and bluesssman is right a seat mod will make a big diff.
Honestly Bob, Y not use aluminum? TJ products are grade 7075 alu.(stronger than 6061 aircraft quality) and has a tensil strength somewhere around 60,000 psi. They don't change the angle of the shock either.
Hey 2002 Classic, I used HD's Badlander seat and dropped about an inch, gained another with the blocks. $300 total.
Seats the easiest way to go if you are going to lower forget the drop kits do it the right way either mod the shocks or buy lowered shocks and a lowering kt for the front.
Check out Danny Gray seats they'll give you the 2" you need and a serious amount of comfort. I also highly reccomend Bitchin Baggers lowered shocks. Got em' love em'.
