AutoXR, you might check 'where' you are getting your fuel. There are a large number of stations around the Denver Metro area that I will never use because I know they have CRAP gasoline...and others where I know the gas is pretty good.
Lot of talk on this subject. I averaged 41 mpg on a 4500 mile trip from Seattle to Alabama in September. Cruised one day on I-90 at 80 mph most of a day, got 39 mpg. High of 50 mpg and low of 38 mpg on the trip. Took a 750 miler a couple of weeks ago. Avg 40 mpg. On one tank I tried running in 5th gear, mostly highway @ 70 mph, got 37 mpg. ( see sig) All of this was with two up. Ultras aint the most aero of machines.
I agree with the 6th gear thing, tech told me the gears are set up on the motor for 65-70 MPH in 6th gear, if your not doing this speed your lugging your motor.
We average between 42 and 44 on a 08 ultra with rush slipons, stage one breather and map. This is mostly two up riding. 50/50 town and country Our gas mileage went up after breakin period. One thing I've found to kill mileage is gas with ethanol 2 to 3 mpg. Noticed this in the car 07 mustang, van 99 dodge, and the bike.
Last tank on my 08 ultra 31 mpg wtf!!.my o3 road king with stage 1 and se pipes would get near 50 on the same trip. The trip was 3/4 highway and side roads.
My ultra is stock....would the above mods get better mpg?
I notice you are from NJ. So am I. In the summer I get 41 - 46 mpg.
As soon as the cooler weather comes, my last tank was at 34mpg. I've been as low as 31 in winter.
I think it's a combination of the cooler weather making it run richer and the additional ethanol they add for cooler weather.
I have an '06 SG with SE air and slip-ons. 16K on the clock and the bike acted this way from the get-go.
