I had the TVII on my '04 EG w/ Rinehart TD's and SE a/c for 2+years/40K miles and it worked very well.

I removed it and went with the SERT when I installed a set of bolt in cams. With a knowledgeable friend, I learned how to tune my bike with the SERT and DTT Twin Scan II+ and 02 sensors.

The newer version is plug 'n play and does what it says it will do.

For owners of '07 and newer bikes, who don't want to load maps, do data runs, or spend time and $$$ on the dyno, the TVIII is a very attractive alternative.

Yeah. You took an open-loop system and added closed-loop operation with the TV on your '04. If you've got an '07+ then these things really bring nothing to the table that a $150 dealer download won't do. And to me, "plug and play" would mean disconnecting the wiring harness from the ECU, plugging in the new connector, and plugging the other new connector to the wiring harness. Not routing wires all over the bike and tapping into others, etc.

I really don't know why they market these for closed-loop EFI-equipped bikes anyway. Really. I don't understand it.

I'd go for it. That's my plan as well. I have heard NOTHING but bad about the TV2 but the TV3 is supposed to be MUCH better. A buddy of mine has it on his 07 SG and it seems to be running just fine. He does pull on me in the higher R's but I have no report about MPG improvements. He's got it up for the winter and I plan to get one in the spring. Good luck on your choice!

Take a moment and think about what you're contemplating. At TerryComp.com the cheapest TV-3 is the one for my '07 bagger and it's more costly than the list price for a TTS tuner and cables (which combination may well be still available for ~$400 from a member here). Sure, the TTS will be married to the bike and the TV won't, but who's going to go to all the trouble to remove a TV from a bike they're selling, anyway? Read the instructions about removing the air cleaner assembly, etc. With the TV, you get what you get in terms of tuning. Who knows what that means? The documentation on these units is extremely scant, at best. I'd just save a few bucks, not have to alter any of my system wiring, and use the stock EFI to its fullest by programming it directly with the TTS.

Okay, I'll bow out of this discussion now...

[edit] No, wait, I forgot to discuss the O2 sensors these things use in common with the closed-loop bikes, and presumably as add-ons to open-loop bikes. They are not wide-band sensors, so they basically indicate (accurately) a very narrow range either side of "perfect combustion". The stock Delphi (closed-loop) ECU uses a fairly complex mechanism to interpolate data from the closed-loop areas for the open-loop areas. These TV units would have to do the same. At best, it would be the same (and I doubt it's that good) as the stock ECU even in terms of capability, much less what it does with what it can. Okay, now I'm done.
