My 08 came in the fathest back position from factory. I put the KURY relocator kit on and it works good. pretty easy to install and seemed like good quality.

I have yet to install hard tour pack... but leather tour pack was actually adjustable in a 3-4" range. One could easily drill new holes, which I did to install one up on a Heritage and gain proper back support.

This winter I will get a King pack and look into one-up on that.

This is the underside of my '06 TP. You can see the detent that the "U" bar fits into. This is the adjustment your manual refers to, it is about 3/4".

The 09 rigid/stationary mount has 2 positions only, roughly a 1 inch difference. The rack was redesigned for 09 due to the wider rear fender. 4 bolts fasten the tourpak to the rack. on the inside of the tourpak mounting plate, there is not enough room to redrill another set of holes in the mounting plate, also, on the 09 rack, the forward cross-member will protrude beyond the front of the tourpak.

I am hoping good ole George Anderson will come up with a solution. I have one of his relocator plates from my 06 Ultra, and scratched my head trying to come up with a way to adapt it to an 09, to no avail.

+1 With all due respect, jberg, did you even look at the bottom of your tour pak? And the next time you're at the dealer, ask them if they have ever read their own literature, including the web site? This has been a feature since at least '06, stated on their literature under "unique features."

"Tour Pak with brake lights, LED side lights, and 2 position adjustability...."

Ours came in the rearward position, but I believe (not certain) that the tour pak is installed at the dealer. If you see a bike in the shipping crate, when first opened, the "high and long stuff" is packed separately to keep the size of the crate down. This includes, I believe, the tour pak and windshield. That would explain why some people had theirs in the forward postion, and some in the rear position. I watched a tech unpack a Screaming Eagle Ultra, and if I remember correctly the Tour pack and windshield were boxed and sitting on top of the seat.

Maybe a dealer or tech can verify that or correct if wrong.

Is the delivered position the extended or the closer position?
Definitely two mounting positions...
My '06 had it in the rearmost position on delivery
Not a big deal to change the position just unbolt the pack and move it to the other position and bolt back down.
If you want to set it back further you can get relocation kits to set it back further but you cannot use these with a detachable tour pack.

I use the Tim Sights relocator. Goes solo or 2 up. Pull the lever and just move.

I have a 07 RG with King Tour Pak and detachable rack mount. The "U" bar allows for 2" adjustment. Kuryakyn has a replacement "U" bar that adds another 2". The TP can be 4" back from the original full forward position.

If you look at Soos picture above you'll notice that his "U" bar is incorrectly attached to the tour pack. It should be in the cradle. (See image below.)

The "U" bar attaches to the TP at the back of the "U" and has four (4) other screws that go through the TP, "U" bar, round to flat spacers and the chrome detachable rack. The stock detachable has holes to move 1 or 2 inches. The Kuryakyn kit allows another 2 inches. AT least that is how it works for 05-07 Touring bikes.

Thanks for all the good observations. MNGPRider is right. The Tour Pack is dealer installed and once I removed the liner I could easily see the second set of mounting holes in the bottom. Mine was already in the rearmost position.
There seems to be extra grooves toward the front of the one currently used for the rearmost support tube but there is no other hardware involved which would allow for further rearward movement.
The dealer techs surprised me. Even the shop manual shows the two position choice. The new bike assembler has to know about it.
I'll live with the existing system until the old lady either complains or gains weight, whichever comes first...
