I've got two, first is Heavy leather with a zip in/out thinsulate liner good from 70f down to 35f. Second is ballistic mesh with shoulder/elbow/back flex armour and zip in/out wind breaker/liner good above 70f up to 100f (truly passes alot of air thru mesh). The liners pack so thin you can carry them with you for full comfort all day/night. Get a quality product which will last for years. Cheap stuff in these garments comes apart quickly. As always get the brand/style YOU like most, you'll be more likely to wear it. Happy trails...Welcome back...
Fox Creek jackets are awesome and you won't be disappointed. The entire H-D FXRG line is outstanding, and like Fox Creek, it's pricey. I echo the multi-jacket comments as well, especially if you ride in similar temperatures that I do (low teens to 120s).
Second the Olympia AST touing jacket and Ranger pants. Use this on all day trips and multi-day trips. It's warm, and waterproof. Now if rain comes it's no big deal. Also have HD leather FXRG jacket. It's real nice, and a HD perferated leather for summer .
I have the FXRG nylon jacket for cold to moderate temps.
Perforated leather for medium temps.
Vanson "bones" mesh jacket for hot weather.
All have body armour.
If I had to pick one jacket to "do it all" it would have to be the FXRG as it's one of the best designed, comfortable, waterproof, versatile jackets I've ever had.
The black piping glows white when light shines on it also.

I like heavy leather for jacket, chaps and vest. Been keep'n cows warm for years.
Beyond that, I personally like the First Gear Rainman jacket and pants for the heavy rain days. A good, tough rain jacket and pants but compact enopugh to pack-up. They have lower side zips to slip over boots and a no-melt material from the knees down.
Another vote for Fox Creek leather here. Very heavy leather but very supple and just excellent quality. Even the pocket liners are a tough material that won't rip out like so many jackets do.
