Default Battery Advice

My Road King battery took a dump after three years of use, I expected that. HD wants about $150 for a new one but there has to be equally good batteries out there for less money.

What are some of you folks using, or would recommend ?

I have tried other batteries in the past and they always seem to fail. I would stick with the HD battery; you get what you pay for in batteries!

+1 on the HD battery. It is sealed, many of the aftermarket lower cost batteries are not and the HD batteries last the longest in my experience.

HD doesn't make their batteries, they just slap their name and add $$ to the cost.
Try a good battery manufacturer like Interstate, or Exide.
They are reputable manufacturers and probably make Harleys bateries.

Just my $0.02

I would by the HD battery, I know they don't make their own batteries( East Penn does) but that doesn't mean the other brands are the same spec. They will make a battery to your spec if you buy enough. Are you using a battery maintainer when the bike is parked for extended times? My 2001 battery made it til 2007 before it took a crap.

Harley does make a good battery for the price, the only other I would use would be a Odessy,it's more than a Harley battery though. It is recomended to replace every three years to be on the safe side.

I used a maintainer/desulphater on mine at all times while not riding. Mine crapped out right at 38 months, I think the Arizona summers may have shortened the life a little. It get to 140' in the garage during the heat of the day here.

I've heard good things about Odyssey Batteries. I believe there was an article in Motorcycle Consumer News a few months ago that said they were very good. Not cheap, but very good. I've found that a battery tender is the absolutely best thing you can do for your battery...
