Snipit,

It really depends on your riding posture and how you sit, that will determine how low you should cut your windshield. If you're planning on changing seat, add backrest, or highway pegs, do these first! Then determine how low you should cut. You might find that after these changes, you're sitting right where you want to be, and no longer need to have the windshield cut.

When cutting, I like the top edge of the windshield to be just below my eye line. The wind buffer will still go above your head. You'll see the road better pass the windshield than through it.

I have a couple of questions. First, I've read the DIY thread on cutting down a windshield. Seems easy enough. I tried to do it, but when I made the cardboard template and moved it down on the windshield to the height I needed, the arc didn't match on the sides. My stock RK windshield is kind of egg shaped. I never could figure out a way to keep the same shape and take height off. Second, I would rather just bye a second shield. I want a low profile smoked shield, but I don't want to pay what Harley wants for one. Does anybody know a place to get one pretty cheap. I don't care about getting a second set of mounting hardware, as I wouldn't be switching them that much. I would use the low profile shield most of the time and only put the stocker back on for long trips. On the link posted above, I only saw shields for e-glides.

I bought 1 from these guys for my SG, and absolutely love it, its wider on the sides and in my opinion looks rather cool. They are super nice folks too.
