My wife want me to buy her the new 2009 Tri-Glide Ultra Classic. Have seen one but don't know anyone that has rode one. It is all harley from what I was told. 103 with 6 speed and reverse.
If anyone has rode one, would like to hear from them before spending that type of money. 37K out the door.
Reverse is not stock. I think it's like $1,200 if I remember right and I think it's electric. They are beautiful bikes and well worth the money. You can't build a trike kit for what Harley is selling these for. I was surprised when I saw items in the new catalog.
Electric reverse is a $1195.00 option. It is Harley's design, Lehman assembles. Plenty of power, rides nice. I don't like trikes, but I was impressed. Fit and finish is perfect.
The one I saw was red so it was a little more in price, and had alarm, oil coolier, reverse, cruise and some more items. Sale tax and registration made it 37K out the door.
My wife had her back broken 9 years ago and can not ride two up so I would like her to be able to participate in more of the bike rides I do so we thought this would be an option for her.
I rode one at their demo rides in Rapid City this Summer. About a 7 mile course. I couldn't wait to get off the thing. Gutless, loud tranny and a lot of slop in the drive train. When I got back to the tent I immediatly told the Harley rep that something was wrong with the trike. He took it for a run around the parking lot and then told me that it seemed to be normal. I wouldn't trade my 05 roadie for the thing. I can't imagine loading it with gear and a passenger and taking a trip. The gearing needs to be rethought and if the auto chain tensioner was working, it wasn't doing it's job. Sorry, but I didn't care for it at all.
We got one on our floor, red. It's got every option and every P&A accessory listed in the book for it and they guy that is buying it just had us change out every lens to smoked and every bulb to LED and headlamp and passing lamps to PIAA bulbs. The guy has over $50k into it and is picking her up Saturday.
Has your wife ever driven a trike? There is some upper-body strength involved. My brother purchased a trike for his wife a few years back. She was never able to maintain control and never got to the point where she would ride it. It was an expensive lesson.
