I'm not tryin to be a smart ***, but i have a question. If the speakers are in front of your face, & the exhaust is coming out behind the bike, how in the hell can you NOT hear the radio? I've got an 07 SG with V&H true duals & thunderheader slipons & i have no problems hearing tunes outta the stock speakers.
Tried 1:75's and ovals, they were to loud. Now have new model SE 4 inch mufflers on V H true duels. Good rumble and no more ear damage @ 75 mph. I wear 1/2 helmet.
I have the Rush Slip on Pipes on My Bike, they are great sounding not real loud but have a nice rumble to them, they are perfect for the Touring Bikes, you should check them out!

OK, picture this. You're tootin' down the road listening to your favorite tunes and a car sneaks up from behind you, gets close and then proceeds to lay on the horn continually. Do you think the sound of the horn (even though it is coming from behind your bike) would interfere with your up front spreakers? Sure that might be an exaggeration but the fact is your muffler outlets are what, 3-4 feet from your ears?
Like I said earlier, I found myself constantly searching for the right gear / RPM combination if I didnt want to have too much grumbling from behind. Thats just me and I am inclined to wear a shorty helmet in the warm months and want to do some longer trips and several day touring. A better choice for me is the stock 09 mufflers because they are close to perfect. The stereo is pretty darned good on my bike and I guess I prefer to hear it more and the exhaust less. Live and let live I say....

Exactly...there is this thumb switch on the handlebars that controls the volume. Another thought is ear plugs as they will dampen the wind noise and that may help hear the stereo better as well.
As far as the horn from the car. The horn is facing forward and is loud so you can hear it...LOL

Whatever floats your boat man... Why is it that this topic always becomes an arguable debate? Same as the warranty issue, to buy it or not. People feel the need to make others see it there way. Like I said, to each his own and I myself do not wear earplugs, because I dont need to. (and don't want to need to!)
AT LEAST I owned and tried the mufflers I am talking about here, unlike some others who are so passionate about contradicting my opinion. What a joke when some of these guys go off the deep end and dont even own the product themselves....
I found the perfect mufflers, 3" internal disc Super Traps, you can adjust them to what ever level you want, open end cap, closed more or less disc and they flow perfect. Doc

Why is this topic debatable...because you are the first person that most of us have heard of say that you can't hear the stereo well enough with your only exhaust mod being slip-ons...and slip-ons that most consider fairly quiet.
I would love to hear your explaination of why you think you don't need to wear earplugs. If you just say I choose not to wear them, that does not explain why you think you don't need to wear them.
I have KERKER with fishtail caps and they are nice and low with a nice full throttle rumble Like to listen to the stereo about the same as SE Touring pipes if your in South Florida and want to hear them PM me
