Default New 09 Trans

From what I understand, they changed the gear ratio on the 09 trans on the streetglide. Has anyone riden one to know if it made a difference. And would it be worth while to buy a 09 trans or if harley is making a patch for the 07's. I have noticed sixth gear is a little slugish on my 07

Yes it made a difference between my 07 RKC and my 09 UC, can use 6th without having to go 90.

The gear ratio change was accomplished by way of a sprocket change. The tranny in the 09's are the same as the 07 and 08's. You can change your ratio in a couple of different ways.

So do you know this is the case ? And which sprocket did they change and I would guess the spedo would need recalabrating wouldnt it.

Yes DAWG knows, and yes the speedo would be off. Do you want to change the gear ratio? If so, ask or use search function.

The RK doesn't have a tach so wondering... What's the 6th gear RPM now on the '09 bikes at say 70 or 75 mph? Anyone able to share that? What was the 6th gear RPM in the '07 or '08 bikes?

Nice to hear they made the 6th gear ratio more "usable" now.

If you look up the ratio, it only makes about a 300 rpm or so difference in 6th gear....so in relative terms, if you thought your 07 6th gear only worked at 90, then the 09's only work at 85mph in relative terms. I know everyone says 6th gear in 07-08 in unusable below 90 which I can't understand. My '08 rides just fine in 6th gear and will even pull inclines at 65mph. I pass in 6th gear unless I really need to accelerate. If I am two-up with a passenger, then I always go to 5th to accelerate or pass, but I enjoy the slightly lower rpms at highway cruise speed.

I like to run lower RPM's as long as not lugging the motor and not putting a load on it. The 6th gear is a great idea for sure. Easier on the motor and better mpg's is all good by me!
