Default 09 Touring model Catalyst

Hello, I get a few emails a day asking about the catalyst on the 09 Touring models so I thought I would post some info. The only 09 Touring models that have a catalyst in the heapipe are the 09 California models, CVO models, and bikes manufactured for international export. This can also be verified on page 30 of your owners manual for the 09 bike as noted:

CATALYTIC CONVERTER: TOURING MODELS
Touring motorcycles manufactured for international and California markets have a catalytic converter in the exhuast pipe collector.

Thanks for the clarification Jamie, I've been reading a lot of conflicting posts on this topic lately.

Jamie,

So a good set of slip on pipes is all we need to enhance performance? I have been told the headers on the 09's perform like a two into one, is this correct?

Hoping to have my SG in a few weeks. Then waiting for you to have the PCV's available for it.

Thanks!

Yes, pray tell.
I'm one of those California 09 Ultra owners who would love to pull this off if possible.
Any change to performance?
Can the O2 sensors and ECM adapt to the change, or is a dyno remap required?

A good set of slip ons works very well on these bikes and there are considerable gains with the Stage 1 air cleaner and EFI tuning. Our Jackpot mufflers feature a unique dyno developed asymetric baffle system and take advantage of the stock headpipes and perform really, really well. We will post some charts in the next week as we will be doing fuel maps for many different combinations over the holiday long weekend. For starters here is a chart from a completely stock 09 vs. our Jackpot mufflers, runs done as fast as Kieth could swap hot mufflers. http://www.fuelmotousa.com/dyno09stkvsjackpot.JPG

Jamie,
As far as you comments above, does this also hold true to the California bike's? I personelly don't see how these header's can flow very well at all with the catalyst design as it is. Rich

We have not done any testing on CA models, but we have someone in CA that is going to do some testing for us. Also note on several of the Japanese bikes we have tested before/after removing the cats on several of them there were only marginal performance gains and many catalysts in the automotive world work very well, so only time will tell

FINALLY!!!! Correct information...I was led astray.

With that being said...I'm interested in a non Cali header pipe if anyone has one available.
