Old school? Hardly. If you want "old school," you'll have to at least be riding a Shovelhead. Now if you're riding a Knucklehead or Panhead, then you're really in "old school" territory.
The fact that a Harley will not rust out and for most is not main transportation.
All of those great EVOs are sitting somewhere.
Maybe exported or just collecting dust.
I never owned a EVO dresser, but these bikes should be a great value.
The chopper market still use the EVO as a base engine.
Embarrassment isn't worth the effort. I know what the various designations are, & was just takin' a shortcut assumin' all the bikers here would know what I meant.
As for it not being a "Harley" at all, who cares? The Ultima is smoother than any stock EVO motors I've ridden (& that's a bunch), produces great power, & is beafier & better lookin'. I can live with the shame without being embarrassed.....

Ditto this. In fact, not all shovels can even make the big time. There are still huge numbers of EVOs out there. You can know it is not a classic very easily: HD WILL STILL WORK ON THEM AND YOU CAN GET A REMANUFACTURED MOTOR by the factory....
I just sold an EVO not long ago, and it is clear that most people can pick up a much better twin cam for not much more and I had a hard time with that fact. The EVO is a good motor, the problem was the high cost we the owners paid for them. We want them to be a classic, but they are not, it has to be a shovel or older to be a classic...someday but not yet.
well I bought my first harley in march 08 after leaking base gaskets, 38 % leakdown, complete top end rebuild I have to say I love riding this bike. But I would not hesitate to get rid of it and upgrade to a newer road glide.
