on my RK, I had to remove the front brackets for the saddle bags, the strap is just kind of held in place by them, on the badlander seat it would have just been bolted on like normal, but i didn't put it on since i have a passenger backrest

Must be a different set up because mine isnt held on by the saddle bag bolts there is a separate bracket that the strap is fastened to one side is phillips screw that goes threw the strap i took that screw out but the otherside is like rivited on there so it wont come of without cutting it or something as far as the stock seat i had meancity cycles put memory foam in it and redo but that didnt get melow enough so i got reach seat what did you have in mind for the seat

I just swapped out My Stock Seat on My 09 RG and had to remove the Grab Strap, it was held in place by a Bolt on the Saddlebag Mount on the Left Side of the Bike. I am not sure if all of them are the same. I left the Grab Strap off.

Removing mine on an 08 Ultra required removing the saddle bag bracket on one side. It
was permantly mounted to a bracket underneath the saddle bag bracket.

One of the first things I do when I get a new bike is to remove the strap from the saddle bag mounts (who wants to take bolts out every time you need to take the seat off!!), remove the chrome mounting tabs from the strap then use pop rivets with large heads (a little smaller than a dime) to reattach it to the underside of the seat. Just line it up where ever you want it to go, drill holes where the pop rivets are going to be and pop them in. I use three on each side. There's plastic material on the underside of the seat to attach the pop rivet to. I like to keep the strap on to cover up the hole where the rider back rest goes. I've done it on four bikes and never had a problem.

Don't cut or drill anything. The strap is actually connected to a small bracket on both sides that can be removed completely. Just remove the entire strap and brackets and store them in your garage. You don't need them. No one ever holds onto the strap anyway and it's just another thing to remove every time you take the seat off. Look for the bolts on the saddle bag mounts that hold the strap. You can access them with a wrench if the saddle bag lids are open.

That is a great suggestion, and I think I'm going to do that over the winter to my seat on the Ultra. I had the passenger grab rail on my SG, but i would have had to buy a new one for the '09, and your way seems a lot easier. Thanks for the tip.
