I installed the stage 1 kit today, took less than 1 1/2 hrs being careful. The instructions say to remove the fuel tank so that you can get to the button head screws that hold on the a/c bracket, but you don't need to remove the tank. I am running stock modified mufflers and xied's and it is running absolutely great.

My question is do you do away with the bracket and bolt the backplate directly into the cylinder head, if so how do you get to the bracket screws to take it off with the tank still on.

You can get to the bracket screws and remove the bracket without removing the tank, it is a tight fit but you can get them out. Keith here is the master at Stage 1 kits one the drive by wire bikes, he can install one in 10 minutes (not kidding) He gets alot of practice!
How much was the kit itself. I have installed the Xied's and am thinking about putting just the stage 1 kit and running without the download...keep me posted on how she does.

You can get to them with an allen wrench or you can use a hex head socket type on a spinner. The bracket is disgarded. I put the screws back in with a nut for a spacer just for looks.
What's the major difference aside from physical appearance and able to accommodate a K&N filter designed for the kit. Is there a bore difference to let more air in?
