Al Gore says that must be a doctored picture. Global warming ,ya know! Two all-time record lows this year alone in north central Florida and it's just the start of December.
GW stats are obtained from global averages, not local fluctuations.
Small taste of what most of the country gets to deal with
Well, I don't like it. You can just take that white stuff and keep it up north where it belongs! Anyway, it's now 41° and the snow is mostly gone. Saturday it'll be sunny and 65°, so I'll struggle along for two more days.
Yep, I live near New Orleans and I feel your pain. On the bright side though, the weather forecast shows highs of 67 for Saturday and 73 for Sunday. Looks like riding weather again, damn the luck.
Even got a light dusting on my boat in the Mississippi river below Belle Chasse Louisiana. The funny thing was when my wife called me 2 of the ladies she works with were bitching that their boss should have told them to stay home because of that 1" of snow. Don't take much to shut down the dirty south.
That's the worst part, those areas don't have the equipment for snow
Not only that but drivers don't have the mental equipment for snow, and I mean by that experience. I wouldn't even think about getting out on the roads around here in ice or snow and play bumper cars with the locals. Fortunately these conditions are rare occurrences.
Iclick, we just moved my Mom up here to live with us -- she lived in Monroe. She doesn't like it either, but there's no going back, so she's learning to live up here. It's all what you get used to, but I sure wish we could ride more in the Winter like you can.

Yeah, two whole days of waiting. That really sux.
New Orleans made national news today with its snowfall, even though you only got 1". We had 3" in BR, which was pretty spectacular for us. Odd that it snowed here and almost nowhere else in the region. Here is a radar map from this morning. The weather guy tried to explain it, but it was a bit cloudy, pardon the pun. Something about the front moving west to east with the north border passing our area. Both north and south of that axis had mostly rain.
Oh come on now! Go out for a ride. It will be exhillarating! Just wait till they throw down salt all over the roads first so you can really clean it when you get back.
Forget it. I wouldn't let one snowflake touch my SG. It might be frozen acid rain and spot the paint or the chrome. The horror, the horror.
Anyway, the road crews do have salt in inventory, believe it or not, as occasionally bridges ice over. They iced a bit last night and will likely do it even more tonight, so I'm sure salt will be used.

Most of the snow was north of you, but you can check out the radar image I posted earlier that shows a small pocket of snow right here. Rain to the north, rain to the south, but a little round section of snow right here. Go figure. It was some sort of oddball thing with the front moving west to east, or something.
They did shut down a few roads here, mostly because of bridges icing. Many businesses didn't open at all and all schools were closed, giving the kids a holiday to play in the snow. It doesn't happen often here, so it was a great thing for them. It doesn't take much to cause a panic here, as you pointed out, and you guys up north would find the frenzy somewhat comical, I'm sure. Keep in mind that the infrastructure is not designed for ice or snow and most people have little experience driving in these conditions.
