I tried an experiment the other day. I installed a shorty antenna on my bike and did the next station search and found 19 stations. I installed the long antenna, without moving the bike or even turning it off and redid the search - 29 stations. I try to keep the longer antenna on as much as I can.

Even if it only takes a second, that will get old doing it every morning. Sometimes I'm movin and groovin to get to work on time. I'm sure that would just add to my mood. I'd rather lock em down.

I made a clip for mine to hold it down. Used to ride that way all the time with no ill effects.

Did you try the new Harley Short antenna? It may be a matter of location but I just installed on on mine and I had no difference in available stations.

I ride the same route daily, my shorties only have about a 3 - 5 mile range difference with my local fm station than my whips did. I havent a difference on the AM yet. Not enough gain with the whips to make me deal with them again.
