Default Corbin Close solo

Has anyone any info on this seat compared to regular Corbin solo vs stock SG seat position?

Default Corbin solo

I got a Corbin close solo on my 06 Road King, the best seat for my purposes. It puts me closer to the tank and lowers my seating position. The stock seat sat me back too far and too high.Tried a Sundowner solo, but it didn't move me forward enough or low enough. If you got short legs like me there aren't too many choices as far as a forward and lower seating position is concerned. After I got my seat I sent it back to get a "nose job", which narrows the front of the seat, this makes it easier to put your feet on the ground when stopped.I also got a backrest and like it a lot.If you need to go forward and down this is a good set-up.I would be very interested in any other set-up that does what this one does.

About 28 inches, by the way , I did try a regular Corbin solo and it sat me back too much.

I can only give you my experience with a '96 RK. The Classic Solo pulled me back 2" from stock, which was a bit too much so I bought a Close Solo about a year later. That one pushed me forward to about the same distance as the stock seat, and that was about right for me. The first seat was very comfortable but the second remarkably uncomfortable. I returned it to Corbin and they fixed it in warranty, thereafter being more comfortable but not up to the level of the first. I used it for about seven years. Both also lowered me about 2" from stock.

I can't see why the close version would be more uncomfortable than the regular seat, as they're very close in design. I just think my Close Solo was an exception that had to be fixed in warranty, but I never figured out what the problem was. A modern SG seat will likely be quite different from a 13-year-old RK in seating position, so I would call Corbin and ask questions.

I have been on Harley's since 95 (newbie to a lot of riders) Anyway, have had a corbin on all of them.. I am 5'6" - I have heard Horror stories about Corbin and their mail order dept... I am very lucky to live with in a two hour ride... On my bikes I do their 'ride in appoitment' I arrive at about 0800 - work with the builder and he builds a seat to fit MY BUTT - leave that afternoon with a GREAT seat... I would NOT ride on anything else... Shop mail order and take your chances... if you are close enough - make a trip out of it and get a true custom seat...

Go to Corbin's website and it will show you the dimensions of the 2 seats. You won't have to guess then.

Hey shekmark...

I have a Corbin Close Solo on my '08 Ultra with an extreme 'nose-job'...and it is a GREAT seat! I have a 27" inseam so getting her down where I could touch the ground was imperitive! I also installed a set of 12" Progressive 440's. This is my fourth Corbin...and I couldn't be happier!

Note...harley0711 made a great point...Corbin's phone orders/Internet orders suck! I did a phone order...they took my $$$ right away and it went into Corbin's order system. It took almost 3 months to get my seat delivered with Corbin using the excuse of the 'nose-job' as why it took so long! My other seats never took longer than 4-6 weeks and each one had the infamous 'nose-job on them! When it finally came in I opened the box and hit the friggin' ceiling...I had deleted the backrest plug (which eliminates the stupid looking leather flap) when I ordered the seat but someone decided that I needed it anyway! I put the seat on my bike to see if 'I could live with it' but decided I couldn't...hell, I shouldn't have to! I spent $700.00+ on the seat and pillion and wanted the way I wanted it! Period! I called Corbin and pissed a fit...my concern was getting put at the end of the line again while they fixed the problem and of course, I was assured that would not happen...they had UPS pick it up the next day. Well, almost 6 damn weeks later my seat...just like I had originally ordered it finally arrived!

Man...I feel a lot better!

Quality...can't beat it! Service...good luck! I'll order another Corbin whenever I get another HD, but I think I'll take a road trip to the Corbin factory and have it made while me and my S+W wait for it!

Steve

I just got a close model for my 2009 Street Glide. It says it moves you 2" closer but it felt further from bars than my Harley reach seat. I think it felt that way because the butt area was lower. It dropped my back side down and tilted me away from bars. Stock bars may not be so bad. My bagger bars sit more upright. I suddenly looked 2" below the edge of my windshield instead of over it.

This seat did not work for me and I like Corbin seats. Butt area was fine but due to the way it mounts, there is a large hump right before the seat goes over the tank. This is where their locking mechanism is located so it could not be shaved down any more. I had the seat ordered with a nose job.

The seat also felt wide despite nose job in comparison to Harley reach seat. I wanted to be closer to the ground and closer to the bars. I didn't feel it achieved either for me, however, it would have compared to the stock Street Glide seat.

I'm 5' 4" with a 29" inseam. I could barely reach the kick stand with this seat and I have the kick stand extension kit on.

I called Mustang and they are sending me a 15" solo bucket seat with driver backrest and a pillion to try for 10 days. Nobody else gives you this option to my knowledge. If that doesn't work for me, I will either add the H-D backrest to my reach seat which I know is comfortable for long trips or I may try the C & C Motorcycle seats. Another forum member wrote me that he custom ordered one 2" forward (their basic model sits 1" back from stock) and he is now flat footed. They also have a back rest option and are reasonably priced. I believe they even give 10% off for HDForums members. (I do not work for any of these companies)

I decided to try Mustang due to their money back offer and their back rest design seems to be superb compared to everything else. Hope this helps.
