Default Steering Neck Question

I swapped out the straight zerk fitting on my Road King with a nintey for easier lubing. The question I have is this, has anybody taken apart the steering neck on their Touring Bike to see if there really is a tube on the inside of the steering neck that actually feeds the top and bottom berings? I'm not going to take my front end apart to check, but maybe some of you have seen it for your selves. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

The hole neck is the tube.

Rod is correct. That's why, on the 1st service, it takes a half a tube of grease or better to fill it.
When the bike is built, the MOCO does not put any grease in there. That is supposed to be done at the 1000 mi service.

Like the others said.
You need to pump a lot of grease in there to fill the void and to purge the grease out from top and bottom.

Almost seems stupid to have a tube of grease in there when only a fraction will actually be used. When I pack my wheel berings on my boat trailer or autos, I put some grease in the spindle space but I don't pack it full. Thanks for the info.

You should fill the void to stop condensation.

I for one, haven't packed my steering neck full of grease. I've seen too many that were filled with grease that dripped out on a hot summer day, and splattered all over the fender, and motor.
Then it turns into a never ending job of cleanup, as the grease never seems to stop dripping out.
I'll leave mine alone and take my chanches, thank you.

I filled mine up with almost a whole tube of grease when I did the 10k service. I guess the Tech(?) at the Dealer missed it when they did the 1000 mile service. I do it all myself now, so I know what's been done and what's not.

Same here on 90 degree zerk fitting for steering bearing. I used a synthetic bearing grease so it wouldn't leak on hot days. My dealership never touched mine on 1000 or 5000mi service since it took 3/4 of a tube when I did 10,000mi. Now I have positive piece of mind knowing it was and is being done as recommended in service manual.

I just completed my 20K service myself and it took nearly a whole tube. I don't think the dealer did it at the 1K o 10K service. Do you think any damage has taken place in the 18 months and 20K I put on it?
