Default First Geezer Glide

Wow!...how come it's been such a big secret?! I just recently got myself (for Christmas) a used 2007 Ultra Glide Classic (15459 miles). I have owned 7 Harley's over the last 26 years (Sportsters, Dynas, Softails) and never thought of getting a touring bike until I was a "geezer"...well, I don't consider myself a geezer, but I guess that term is relative (to how old you are now)...

I have NEVER owned a Harley that has been this smooth! I found myself doing 80mph and still in 5th gear and had no desire to put the bike into 6th gear! On my 2000 Fatboy, it was too "buzzy" (high pitch vibration) over 3000 RPM to my liking. Now, 3000+ RPM is now where I ride the Ultra.

I LOVE THIS BIKE!!! I am just upset that I didn't learn this 5 or more years ago! How come no one ever told me....hahahahahah! I have LOVED ALL MY HARLEYS, but this is by far the BEST HARLEY ever (to me).

Yes, I have a slight "5th gear whine" (but I where a full-face modular helmet and play the radio) so it doesn't bother me one bit. I haven't experienced the heat yet (too cold so far), but the bike has heat deflectors by the seat. Coming from a 88 Cubic Inch engine, the 96 cubic inch has much more torque. But I have a couple of questions that I have seen discussed here, but would ask those who own a 2007 Ultra to comment on:

1. If I shift into 6th gear and the RPM drops to 2500 RPM and below, the bike doesn't like it. It doesn't pull strong from there and seems to maybe surge back and forth some. Will the IDS correct this problem (worth the time and money)?

2. If I go with the IDS, should I also add NightRider's 02 IED (or XIED or 14iXIED) or just do either the IED's or the IDS? And if IEDs, which one?

The bike is stone stock exhaust/mufflers and carb/air filter. I have no plans on replacing the carb/air filter or exhaust to anything less restrictive. I'm tired of spending thousands of dollars over the years on "fixing" my Harleys...I can no longer tolerate load pipes (hearing losses).

BTW, I was "Subguy" before the Forum's big problems, forgot my password and the webmaster hasn't been able to successfully push my password to me, so...ergo, and new name and password.

Thanks...and all you who DON'T OWN an ULTRA...man, take it from me, you are not experiencing the FULL Harley Experience...

Enjoy your new H-D. It's a great scooter. I have a 09 RKC but no tach but it scoots along the interstate right well. Wish I knew the rpms, now that you mentioned the tach but with a 5,500 rpm redline it's not a real big urgent need.

Be careful. You will be wanting to take off on a weeklong trip in mid January.

Congrats on the new scooter. I didn't think a carb was available anymore in 2007, I thought all the touring bikes had gone over to fuel injection?

Yeap..fuel injected...first bike with fuel injection...so use to saying carb...

I don't about anyone else, but I feel a difference in the throttle. No lag or little hesitation when giving it throttle (and stranger yet) when backing off on the throttle.
