I always make sure I have her "pulled" back with weight of bike on it so I know the lock is engaged, then it is as firm a stand as you can get.
What's fun is to let someone who doesn't ride (or at least doesn't ride Harleys) sit on your bike and then put her on the side stand. They always freak out when they start to get off and the bike does that slow roll!

My first Harley is a used Bike, so not knowing any better I thought the stand was bent the way it looked and felt as I leaned the bike over. Good to know it's just the way it is. It does seem very secure when on the stand.....but man, it looks some strange!!

Still scares me even when i am watching for it. Just something I have never gotten used to even though I know there is no way in he** it is going to fall over. Is funny to see the look on some of the faces of guys I ride with.

The only thing I don't like is that the stand seems to not swing out far enough; I'd prefer it visually if it was past 90 degrees towards the front of the bike, say around 105 degrees, rather than at the 85 degrees it is.

I'm thinking of EDM making a new "tab" (the part with the square hole that the stand mounts to that engages the lock) with the rotation of the square hole changed to accomplish this.

Has anyone else ever doe/thought about doing this?

HAHA. Too funny. It took me longer to get used to the kickstand than any other aspect of the bike, including driving it. I have heard the stand is foolproof. However, I'm not sure they were considering this fool when it was invented.

I try not to look down when I get off. I hang on to the grips until the pucker factor goes away. My question is, which is the best way to turn the front wheel when parking?

Do what my dealer did. Put the stand down, making sure it's in the notch and
put the bike in neutral and push it forward. You can't make it fall over. That
stand will fold back to the point it's hits the front of the notch and that's it,
it won't go past that point and it won't fall over unless it slides into a hole in
the pavement or concrete :-)
Ride safe,
Dano
