Amazing how many snideazz remarks people had on this thread! I joined this forum to look for real usable info on my 1st harley,a '02 FLSTC.Being disabled(13baddiscs in neck/spine,fibromyalgia,etc.,I'll probably never get to ride much anyway. But to be insulted by AHoles because THEY don't want/NEED reverse at this point is obsurd.I usually wish no ill will on no man, even enemes, but I'd dare say,I'd feel less than sad if certain people lost a foot in an accident to where they needed a reverse,or "Hop" their bike up a hill.Their rude, snide attitude would definately change.Don't need it yet,FINE,but don't bring up purses and the like to try to belittle those of us that might need it.Catch me on a good day jacked-up on pain pills, and we'll talk!
hell, half the nitwits bashing it can't even ride to begin with
I like having reverse as an option, especially with all the gravel around here. Works great on my 2 wheel hog and since it's my hog and nobody else's... those who wish to poo poo me for having it are welcome to come to East TN to see if they can keep up.
oh... and I am not some blue hair old guy who should be on 3 wheels either. Nothing wrong with trikes and I hope I will not want one for several decades. Not a slam in any way against trike riders so don't twist my words.

This thread is five years old. If you haven't got the answers you would like in here, start a new one and explain your condition! I'm sure you will get a different response.

Agreed and also need to have pretty thick skin around here. If you are easily offended, you probably will be..... That said, you will get good info here. Be patient and expect some smart *** answers.
American iron always has an add for a reverse gear vendor or two. Mags can be a good start.
When Honda added reverse to the Wing I recall lots of HD riders criticized the feature for its added cost, weight and complexity. Now they're on board with it. Things change.
As soon as I got my RK stuck in the soft grass of my yard when backing it out of the shed, I found myself contemplating reverse.
Baker is the only one I know of with controls up on the handlebars. There are times I really wouldn't want to let go of my front brakes to shift into reverse.
Cost has always stopped me. My want of reverse isn't high enough for the price yet. Should I finally find a good used one at a swap meet for a few hundred dollars I'll almost assuredly buy it and install it and thoroughly enjoy having it.
I am surprised more people do not have them, at the moment I am fine but I did have a major knee re-construction 15 years ago and a reverse gear at some point will be essential if I am to continue riding two wheels, I am hoping it will not be for another 20 years but it could arrive sooner very easily, I will add anything that allows me to continue enjoying riding.
I traded my 03 Goldwing for a 2013 Ultra Classic last November. The first thing I did when I ordered it was add the Baker F6R Reverse kit. Best investment I made in my bike despite the steep cost.
I'm sorry but pushing a 900 lb bike doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I am 52 years old so not ready for a trike but I have had two knee replacement surgeries this year so having a reverse gear is important to me.
My thought is that HD should include it as stock equipment on all of their large touring bikes. For the diehards who don't want reverse, don't use it but it's nice knowing it's there when you do need it.
The setup on the Goldwing was nice, simply used the starter motor to give you that helping hand when backing up. It's similar to what the HD trike uses. Don't know why they couldn't work something like that out with the touring bikes.
