As to the poll, what I do with my 450 isn't cut and dried. First off, I have the key-locking tightening wheel. I happen to wear a Under Armor skull cap under my helmet, which I typically put on top of the Garmin to hide it from the occasional "glancer". I figure no on wants to touch a nappy do-rag. I only do this if I'm leaving the bike out of site for short periods of time. Otherwise, the 450 gets locked in the bike or trailer or hotel room, depending on how secure I think the area I'm staying is.
When I park for the night at a hotel, I ALWAYS use the HD day cover, which also helps keep prying eyes away.
I've never had a problem in 2 years (so far).

Zumoforums.com for the thumb screw that replaces the security screw. Poppin' the Zumo off the mount & lockin' it in the tourpac or a bag takes about 15 seconds, & you're going to have to do it the first time you loose or misplace that PITA little screwdriver. Yes, I have experience............
I threw away the "security screw" and replaced it with a longer screw with a knurled portion that I can just screw in by hand. Found it on the Zumo forum. I use the RAM mount, and figured anybody that wanted it could just take it cradle and all, even if I used the screw. Especially since I have mine connected to the cig lighter. Plus what pissed me off about the screw is that if you put Garmin's little screwdriver on your keychain, it's bass ackwards! When you take it apart, the side you need to use is still connected to the keychain, making it very difficult to use.
All I need to do to remove mine is to loosen the thumbscrew for the RAM mount, and unplug it from the cig lighter. Takes about 10 seconds. I usually take it off and lock it in the tourpak, even if I'm just going into the dealer for a part. It's just too tempting for the average thief, and I'd hate to loose it like that.
If you're talking about the security screw...it's intended to keep the unit secured in the cradle, not to prevent it being stolen. So to that extent, yes I trust it to keep the unit in the cradle. I never leave the Zumo on the bike when it is unattended.

+1 on the thumb screw from zumoforums - works great and is tons easier to deal with.
