Default '99 Road King Police - Chrome Engine Kit?

A buddy of mine at work has a '99 Road King Police bike. He wants to purchase an engine chrome kit, but was told by a local HD dealership that the police bike would require a different kit than the std '99 Road King kit?? Does this sound right?

Trying to help him, I did a little internet searching, but couldn't find anything. Anyone here have some knowledge about what chrome kit would work on his bike?

Thanks in advance!!

FWIW, i have a 2002 Police Road King, and there really hasn't been anything different motor-wise from a FLHR. The 1999s might be different, but i rather doubt it.

There is a kit available for years '01 thru '06, and one for '07 and later, but we can't find one for the '99. And now the dealership is saying that the police edition is unique and requires a dirrerent kit???

seems simple, just ask them what the differences are. all the items in the kit are available individually so worst case you could buy them all seperate. if you order them from an online dealer you can likely get a better deal anyway.

Not sure what chrome kit your buddy is considering. All of the cop bikes that I've seen have the same chrome engine pieces that an EG Classic or Ultra have. One of the distinguishing features of the cop bike is that it has the chrome engine pieces that are not found on an EG Standard.

The easiest thing he could do would be to take 10 minutes at the parts counter comparing the relevant part nos. for a civilian and cop '99 Road King. Whether or not he would need any additional chrome, he'd at least have the part nos. to order them seperately.

The cam cover is different. The 1999 had the cam position sensor (CMP). The 2002 does not. Other than that the rest is the same.

The '99 model that he has doesn't have any chrome engine pieces, His bikes engine is polished aluminum. This is why he wanted to dress up his bike with one of the kits (one part number) that would allow him to do this. I can't remember the number right off hand but it has all the pieces for right around $1k.

There is a significant discount to buying the kit. Purchasing each part seperately is what he was trying to avoid. He finally found the part number for the '99 model kit, but then was told the police bike was different, but he could find out why. That is the reason I posted this, in hopes that someone here could either tell us for sure there is no difference or specifically what the differences are.
