Hey, all. My first post. Have enjoyed the forum a lot as a lurker.
Bought a new '06 Street Glide in cobalt blue just a couple weeks ago. Always wanted a Harley, and this is a good way to turn 50. Going to keep this stock for at least a while; love the stripped-down look. I've ridden since I was a kid, but I've never taken a long trip. Anyone gone 400-500 miles on the stock seat? I'd like to hear about it.
Duno wat the saddle on that model looks like, but an 05 Ultra....the rider's area is CONVEX? Go figure? I di 38 days out and 600 - 700 a day and it was no real issue...the saddle bottom was...like ridin' the frame after that many days!.
Can't speak for the stock seat, as I always put a Corbin on before I do much riding, but the SG is up to the task. You should be able to do 500 or 600 mile days on it with no problem.
If you find that the stock seat doesn't work for you, it is an easy fix. There are a lot of options to make long distance touring a dream, especially starting with a platform like the SG.
I have the same bike you do and it's completely stock. I did just over 2,000 miles in 5 days with it last August and found it to be very comfortable. Because of the lowered suspension, the main thing you'll have to play with is the air in the shocks. My bike was delivered with 0 p.s.i. which caused the bike to bottom out so I increased the setting to 10 p.s.i. which made the bike ride like a buckboard. I finally settled with a 5 p.s.i. setting.
If you find that you still aren't happy once the air is where you need it, you couldn't find any better advice on a different seat then you'll get right here on the forum.
I ride a cobalt SG too. I rode a little 400 miler last weekend and was impressed that a stock seat could be so comfortable. That said as I have toured all lower 48 I did them on a Mustang and their seats are great. I do believe this time if I change I want to give the sundowner a shot, better price and you can use the same rider backrest that the stock seat uses.
Thanks to all; sorry I've been away since posting the original question.
Man, that memory foam job is happ'nin'!
I had a Corbin on a Yamaha once; liked it. But then, the Yammy stock seat was the absolute worst.
Don't get me wrong - I LOVE everything about this scoot, so there's nothing "wrong" the way it is. (In fact, the only problem I've had to deal with is having my peripheral vision limited 'cause I'm SMILIN' so big when I'm on this thing!)
Just wondering about the stock saddle on long rides.
Anyone got a good source for Mustang & Corbin stuff? I wouldn't mind checking them out.
