Well, I was putting my windshield back on the other day for the first time since I brought the bike home. When I was putting the top sections in, I heard a faint "pop" It ends up that it got a little stress crack in the glass. I talked to the dealership. I told them that I have only ridden with it one time and I wouldn't think it should crack just from putting it on. I was told that HD wouldn't warranty it. I am thinking about getting the low profile smoked windscreen. What are the pros and cons of these rather than the full size windshield. I think it may serve my purposes, as I do not ride with the windshield often. I only plan to use it for long tips and stuff. I guess what I am asking is if they still keep the wind down a little and maybe even keep some of the rain off of you. Also, if any one should happen to have pics of one installed, I'd like to see it....
I am more than a little pissed about it........actually, I think just the glass is only like $150......oh, I was also told that since it happenned while I was putting it on, it was my fault. I was pushing it by the metal trim pieces. I wouldn't have expected it to do that.
What is the height of the stock windshield? I just looked at the memphis shades replacement plastic, I wonder if the 15" would give me too much buffeting?
I recommend getting the Memphis Shades. Not only are they thicker you can polish the scratches out without wearing through the fine film layer like on the HD shields. In addition they have plastic grommets instead of double stick take to cushion the shield between the stainless. All around better shield for less money. You will be happy. I've used them for years.
Sorry that happened to you, that sucks. Has anyone else had this happen while removing/mounting the windshield? I've only had mine off a couple times cuz of the colder temps but in summer it won't be on very often. Not sure if this is a common problem or just a fluke or what.
I have to small cracks about 1/4 inch long at the left side of the top cross brace,Dealer said it looked like the nut was tightened to tight.I told them I have not touched it,they still would not warranty it.
