I'll be taking a long road trip this fall......5000 plus miles round trip....I have 8500 miles on my bike right now....by the time I leave should have about 10000 miles on my bike ....the front tire looks good and the rear looks somewhat worn.....what would you do as far as tune-up and replaceing the tires......I'll be gone for a month.....wondering what I should do thanks.....also a good brand of tires to get

I'd do the tune up and have the dealer check the tire wear and replace them both with Metzler tires, they are rated the best. I'm in the same position this summer except I'm only planning on 2 weeks. Good Luck and be safe.

I would get the oil changed/10K service before you go and change at least the rear tire. I would also plan on changing the oil sometime during your trip given it is 5Kmi.
Now, if you can plan for a tire change sometime during the trip then you could get some more miles on the rear before changing it. Had friends do that on the road, they just made an appointment ahead of time with a dealer they knew they were going to be near on a given date.

Do the service, install new back tire for sure. I use the Dunlop OEM tires and get good service on them, but I order them on line. Front tires usually last 23-24-K miles.

5,000 miles in a month...sounds like a great trip...must be planning on a leisurely ride with lots of stops!!! :-) I usually to 4-5,000 in two weeks.

Tires are important!!! We've only got two of them to count on and most riders I know (including me) don't carry a spare!!!

I also agree with the Metzler ME880 recommendation.

If I had a month to ride??????????? I too do a lot of miles on my trips. Depending on which way I had, east or west, it can be between 4k and 6k+ in two weeks. My next one is already planned out to be just under 6k.

Have the bike serviced one to two weeks prior to the start of your ride. Change the fluids and if the tires are close to end-of-life then have new tires installed.Put at least a couple hundred miles on during that two weeks. If you have had a good experience with the OEM Dunlops then stay with them. The important thing is to never have work done just prior to taking a long trip.

Yes, I'm retired and take several trips a year.

I to would have the service completed before the trip and replace the tire. We do a 3500 to 4000 mile trip in the summer and always make sure that everything is in order before the trip. Going on a long trip like that no need to have anything on your mind but enjoying the ride. Hope your trip is safe and your take lots of pics to post.

I'd change the oil, new air filter and a new rear tire. I've always gotten excellent service from the OEM Dunlop tires. The front tire should be fine - you get about double the mileage out of a front as you do the rear.
