I also had the jack, and hated it. Guess which one I gave away.
You didn't see me telling everyone about how they don't need a jack, though.
Besides, from the way he describes how many things he's bought and didnt like, sounds to me like this kids got more money than he knows what to do with ...
G,
Like you, I had both a lift and table.
The lift was given away.
The buddy that I gave the lift to never uses it.
He rides to my house to use the table.

This J&S lift might be a good lift, no idea...but when you're doing something to bikes ALL the time, the convenience of the table is much better, my opinion.

The extremity that I customized my scoot, I don't see how I could have put it back together on a lift without scratching it.
On my table, the job was completed without so much as a hint of a scratch.

I'll take my table!

any thread can go like this.....I'm the last guy to take a thread off topic.

The guy asked how to deal with how to safely lock a bike down IF he bought a lift table...I've been there and done that and decided AFTER spending the bucks a lift table it wasn't needed.......So I suggested a decent jack instead.

Then some guy comes along and denigrates my comment without himself offering a suggestion.

I repeatedly asked all why do we need a lift table to start with?....I asked that question with open mind even after buying/using one and giving it away to a member of this forum.

I defended myself against a big nose butting in with no suggestion of his own or an answer to anyone's question except to take a shot at me, and then the administrator pops in to talk about unsponsered products being "Forced" on folks.

Hey administrator, I've got an unsponsored J&S jack. I love it!. It's all many other members here would ever want for our money. I know that you don't make any money off it, but it is a product most would buy.

Ban me for whatever reason, but if you do don't do it because I suggested a product made by folks who don't pay you to advertise here, and don't do it because I defended myself in your venue....You might instead want to step in before some jerk insults your members than to react afterwards.

Default lift table

i have both use both, but for me the cleaning of a bike is easier on the table. i use the lift to clean the wheels and tires or putting a transmission it the truck

I hate to hijack the thread, but "sky-hooks" work best for me.

Your quite the drama queen aren't you? No one insulted you and if you took it as an insult you must not be as tough as you were acting. I said another "J&S thread" with a sarcastic icon. I will use a smillie icon next time so you don't get your feelings hurt. And mouthing the Admin. is a good idea too.

Well....despite all the strong feelings within the post, I think I got the information I was looking for.

Looks like I need to walk the bike up (under power or not), and then crank the vice closed. That should take care of my footing problem without the side extensions (although I may still buy the extensions for tool placement).

I guess its all about getting used to the lift table. The vice may have held when it was an inch or so wider than the tire, but I was getting enough movement to doubt this. In addition, I have 21's on the front of my Street Glide, so the way the vice hits may be a little less than optimal. I did notice when I cranked the vice closed it appeared to be pinching the rubber in my tires slightly, so I backed it off a bit.

I can honestly say that the one time I've had my bike up there, the 30" lift height is awesome for cleaning and polishing. You're able to get everywhere on the bike while sitting on a stool (lazy man's way rules).

To get the bike off, I got my wife to help, and it was no problem while feathering the front brake.

I might add I bought a Handy screw sizzors jack to use while my bike is on the Handy table to raise up the rear, or front, if you are wanting to wipe down the rims and tires real good. And to check air pressures pressures. The sizzors jack is slick to raise once the bike is up on the table fully lifted of course for ease of working and inspecting on the wheels/tires. I guess I would recommend both.
I also have a sears bottle lift jack that maybe would take the place of the Handy screw sizzors jack, but I can use the impact wrench on the Handy and zip it up and down real quick..
I bought the tool tray, but never have used it. Plenty of room to lay tools and parts on the extensions.

the idea of walking my bike up onto something utilizing engine power, while i walk beside it just screams for a lack of balance resulting in an unplanned drop to me. i think going with the extensions so you can sit on the bike, with the vise not so loose sounds like the best plan to me.

sure it may work fine 99 times out of 100, but that one time would sure **** me off.

i don't rightly know, i don't have a table, maybe you should just go with the j&s jack....... kidding..... but i do have a condor wheel chock that i use when doing maintenance. makes life super simple. ride it in, step off.

I also use a small sizzors type jack to raise my bikes on the lift table, but I got my jack from an auto junk yard. It's one out of a small forien car. I welded a lingth of two inch channel iron to the top of it wide enough to span the frame rails of the bike. Cost was only a couple of bucks. works great.
