How is this in regards to your charging system? I have those speakers in my dash, some 6x9's ordered with speaker boxes for my sidecar and the 4x100 Alpine amp to mount in the sidecar's storage area behind it's seat. Should sound sweet but curious if it will tax the charging system.
The newer bikes have a 53Amp alternator so that should deliver enough power, but you can always mount a 1.0 farad cap next to the amp. That will provide a buffer from the battery and help isolate the amp and the draw on the electrical.
FYI, I have that Apline PDX 4.150 (4 x 150watt) available with the cap if you want to buy one. If so, just send me a PM. Great condition and pics available. Had them in the bag on my black cherry 07 glide. Think you know the one?
Been researching this topic alot on this forum. I was ready to send my 09 ultra to the dealer to install a mini amp (arc, hogtunes,or hawg wired) and their respective speaker upgrades along with adding satellite to my stock head unit ($400 with the 20% off at Madison, WI HD). I was also considering the HD amp that mounts under the tour pac. Also looking at a Biketronics set up. I figure the total cost would be 700-1000 depending on the set up plus the likely outrageous dealer labor.
So I stopped by my local electronics shop (Team in Janesville,WI) and talked to the guy that has installed several systems into a few cars I've owned over the years. He said he does lots of bikes (mostly Harley and Goldwings). He likes Boston Acoustic and is proposing marine grade speakers (150$) and a BA amp (200$) that he says will be much better then the mini amps. He would try to install it under the tour pack (like the HD amp). Also looked at a marine grade head unit (200$ plus 150$ for the XM receiver). He says he has a unit that will make this work with the thumb controls.
Wondering what experience people have had with independent installers. How would it work mounting an amp under the tour pack (weather and washing are a concern). Anyone else that has used a non Hawg wired or biketronics system to make thumb controls compatible? He is also more then happy to go with the mini amp of my choice. Labor would likely be below the dealers.
Thanks
Rick
What head unit is he going to use, where you can still use the thumb controls? Let us know.
Thanks
Mac

Reason: spelling
i have been contemplating changing out my factory setup with hogtunes speakers for what biketronics has to offer. I've exchanged emails all day long today with Mike at Biketronics and I have to say, I'm impressed at his knowledge, his ability to sell me something that I want, not what he thinks I need, and DAMN.. who can argue with the fact they have patented adapters to accomodate 6.5" speakers in the fairing....
I'm sold.. certainly something you want to look at also....
Mike, if you're reading this.. I'll be ordering everything tomorrow.
also to my knowledge, the Pioneer units that have the option for a wired remote have a loss of some functionality such as the mode feature on your right handlebar controls. The Sony units seem to be the better units for the $$. I would assume (don't know factually) that any radio with an option for a wired remote will accomodate most if not all of your handlebar controls. The key thing with Biketronics for me with their retro kits is the fact that they are AVC (Automatic Volume Control). If I'm wrong with any of this, then I'm certain someone will correct me here...

Don't need the amp since I already have the Alpine. Where did you get the 1.0 farad cap?
Thought alot about this. I think I'm gonna keep the stock HU, add satellite for 400$ (ripoff but no other choice), and go with a mini amp and new front speakers. I'll either use CDRW discs or mount a MP3 on the bars for my own music.
So the only question is do I go with 1) Hawg wired, 2)Hogtunes, 3)Arc miniamp and speakers, or 4) a biketronice set up...........decisions,decisions.

Had an indy do mine ,used a SONY radio and all controls work, also installed tweeters in gauge holes by radio..If its a good stereo store ,you can usually trust them, sure to be cheaper than dealer..my.02
Please provide Sony model numbers that the handlebar controls will still work. Does it need to be specially wired or is this by using Hawg Wired or Biketronics?
