I'm removing the rear shocks on my '09 Street Glide tomorrow to send to Bitchin Baggers for a 1" drop, question about the removal. Can I remove them while the bike is on the ground? Was thinking about removing one, then cutting and drilling a piece of bar stock to replace it, then remove the other shock and install another piece of bar. Will that work, or do I need to put it up on the lift? Any other tricks with the air lines, etc? Thanks all..
It works best to have it on a jack to relieve pressure when removing them. Bar stock will work while they're gone, and you can have a hardtail bagger to ride!
you really need to have the suspension hanging. It is possible to do it while on the ground, but its not something I would want to try again. The shocks will be at full extension when you try to put them on, and if the suspension isn't all the way down, you'll have a really though time.
Keep in mind the swingarm will want to drop to the floor with both shocks removed.
Jack her up till shock bolts can be slid out-that will leave rear tire just touching floor. Then make sure she is tied down to prevent her from getting nose heavy while shocks removed, especially if front tire is off floor.
