I'm 5'9" and currently have a short 16" windshield on my RK and get alot of buffeting and glasses bouncing around. I can buy a standard size windshield but I don't know if this will help or hinder the buffeting. I don't want to spend the money if it's not going to help. Anyone tried going from short to tall or vice versa, and which windshield was better? Is the only answer a full face helmet?
Funny you should ask. I just finished installing the new 17" Memphis Shades OEM replacement shield on mine. Got it for $75 and it's much better. The tall stocker wasn't working (5-7").
Yes, I was hiding behind the stocker. Found myself having to sit up to much to get a clear view over it. They also have 19's but that's only 1" lower so I opted for the 17". Very good quality shield, I was impressed! I may order another for backup.....
I bought a Clear View with recurve that is just short enough to see over and the air does go up over your head. You never will get a smooth ride with an old style windshield be these do work very well.
I'm 6-foot, and if that's considered tall then I guess I'm tall. I had a 17" and the buffeting over the top about beat me to death. I borrowed a 20-incher and it helped a lot, but I got a 22-inch from Cee Bailey and it solved the problem. Put the wife on the back in the air pocket too. If I sit up real straight, I can look over the top and yes, otherwise I'm looking through the plastic. But that's really not a problem for me--less bugs in my teeth. The Fork Air Baffle (58520-79TC) helped keep the wind off of my face as well. When I want lots of breeze, I hop on the Sportster and eat the bugs.
Started off with the stocker,20''.I had to either stretch to see over it or lean down to see through. In a comfortable position, the top was directly in my line of sight.
Got the 16'' one year ago.Like being able to see over it comfortably. The wind now hits me about mid forehead.
I put the air baffle and those fork baffles on before changing windshields. The fork baffles work great.no buffetting at all.
I now have a 17'' clearview with recurve on order. That should put the wind a couple of inches over the top of my head.AND still be able to see over it comfortably.
i have road king classic and i am 5 foot 8.5 inches.
got the clear view with re-curve.
i am able to see over it. wind goes just over head..
get the fork baffle also..lots of wind comes from that area and around gas tank.
I'm beginning to think that buffeting is just a part of having a windshield on a Road King. I've tried a 19 incher. I have a shorter one with a recurve from ClearView. I've tried the fork wings. I do get less buffeting when I wear the full face helmet. I'm not going to go so far as to get a shield that I have to look through. I'm learning to deal with shaky eyeballs. I'm 5'10".
