Went down!
I did look around somewhat. I didn't really see anything, but thinking that makes me feel better about making the mistake of leaning in too far. Most of the damage is going to be in the way of plastic parts fairing, lower fairing, and saddle bag. I know it was said somewhere on here, "it's now if you drop it, it's when", sucks just the same. Just mad at myself and happy daughter wasn't with me.
Glad you are ok. The bike can be repaired. Things happen sometimes that you don't have much control over. My son was hit by a drunk SOB(4th offense) 1.5 yr ago and he is stll haveing some problems. And the SOB trial is finally coming up at the end of this month. Get that daughter of your some protective clothing and a good helmet.
You didn't happen to hit the front brake while making that slow lean turn did you? That will pull you down in a heart beat. Ask me how I know!
I was making a slow u-turn on a Goldwing several years ago, tapped the front brake and the next thing I was doing was trying to pick up that heavy mother.
I learned my lesson that day and haven't done it again.
Glad you are O.K.

My son started riding with me when he was 5. They have to have a good knowlege of what's going on though. My son enjoys riding, he is 14 now, but when he was young he would turn around to look at stuff, and move around in the seat. I thing he timed it perfect, but he would always adjuect his butt when I was in a curve! Long rides are not too good for little ones either. A trip around the block, or down the road is exciting, but a three or four hour trip is boreing, and they get tired. I brought my son on a family oriented (no bars) poker run, and he got bored. His butt hurt, and there was nothing to do at the gas stations we stopped at. At the final stop, we was in a parade, and they had a band, and food, so he had a good time, but an all day run is not that good for them too young.

I miss the days I used to carry my son on my gas tank to fetch stuff from the store....we always took time for and ice cream cone.....I know he will never forget those moments.
Fast forward 20 years and he's sitting beside me in my new LS1 Trans Am. We were headed down the express way-no traffic for miles- very rural area......I slowed and then stopped and kinda looked at him......he snugged his seat belt and grinned......Then I almost pegged the rev limiter and dumped the clutch....we fishtailed thru 3 gears and shut down at 160MPH....he was grinning......So I pulled over and insisted he drive....a few miles later I told him to stop and do the same....That boy will NEVER forget that day!....He was then and still is a cop by-the-way, and I don't think he has ever broken any laws except when with me.

I've got a *****-out '07 Sportster I built with him in mind, but he refuses to take it.....Go figure

To the original poster:....Man, glad you are ok, but if not already in the habit, learn to keep your hand totally off front brake when turning slow....You will be surprized how you can survive even pea gravel if you ride only the rear brake and clutch when turning slowly.

So glad you're OK and your lil one wasn't on board for that... The bike will be fixed good as new so live n learn. Things happen so fast and out of the blue so you've got to be ready for it (good leather!) and it will save you a world of hurt.
I'm trying to piece this one together in my mind. The idea of leaning too far makes me think you'd scrape your floorboards long before you were over enough to wipe out, and that floorboard scrape should bounce you back up if you hit a steep lean into a curve with some speed.
Did you feel any loss of traction before going down?

Man, that sucks sorry to hear that. Glad you are OK. Bike can be fixed! That is why I am waiting to take the first ride. Get rid of all the salt and **it on the roads. Glad you are OK.
Glad to hear you are ok and that your kid avoided injury but any bad memories from riding.
My wife knocked mine over a few months ago. I'm now getting a custom paint job for the insurance check and a little bit more. Sure the pipes still have a little scratch on the bottom, but they were still stock fortunately.

Hey Brother, glad you're ok. I'm your neighbor in Lockport. I would have been out too but my machine is in the shop with a split headpipe - waiting on the new one. Take it easy and I'll see ya at Conrads in the summer with your "new" machine.
Don't forget to replace all of the chrome that was "already there". hehe
