my father - rest his soul - use to save a lot of things. he would get booze bottles for xmas and save them. he got xmas fruit cakes and saved them. he bought new tools and didn't use them, put them away in the attic. bought new leather jackets and didn't wear them, and the list goes on.

after he passed and we had to clean up, a large portion of the booze bottles had started to evaporate, even though never opened, some mice had gotten to the fruit cakes, a lot of the tools were rusting and pitted, the wooden handles dried out. the leather jackets had become brittle.

he had bought just a geourgous pontiac convertable and kept it for a number of years only to find out that the gaskets had dried out and the trans, engine, etc. all had to be redone.

he luved new stuff and hated to use it. we had numerous conversations about this. i just felt that not being able to use it when new and to have the elements etc age it anyway was a waste.

so although i have inherited some of that 'wanting to keep it new' attitude - i am still more than glad that the aging that has taken place on my bike is more due to me than to anything else.

I got it my brothers. Do what I can to take care of the bike but ride like hell! I'll try not to be so over-protective!

I totally agree. My dad always used to say "rust wastes more than use,." It's a mantra I live by...

Man, I can relate to your poor dad. I'm like that too in a big way. Unfortunately, this is a form of OCD - obsessive/compulsive disorder and is rarely completely curable. I deal with it every day. It's rough, let me tell ya!

Wishing you the best,

John

Do they make clear bras for bikes? Used to have one on my Porsche, worked well.
