Has anyone ever had their bike searched to the point of removing the outer fairing while going in to Canada? I am going to Alaska in July and I expect to be on the road for about 3 weeks and I really dont like the idea of not having my Glock . Now I know the risk of taking firearms into Canada, so what I really want to know is if anyone has had their fairings dismantled for inspection.
Thanks for sharing any stories you might have
The border crossings can include dogs that can sniff explosives (and guns no matter how well cleaned), and drugs. Don't stuff your Glock in your fairing...you could go to prison, lose your motorcycle and your pistol. They do not play when it comes to guns. A hidden gun is generally taken to mean the owner has criminal intent to use the gun.
Ok, funny/sick story here. In 1990 I went with a buddy on Goldwings to Canada via Victoria Island. We were on the ferry making the crossing when the Captain came on the PA system and announced that guns were not allowed in Canada so if anyone had one please bring it to him and he will mail it home. My friend got a little nervous and finally copped that he had a pistol hidden in his bike and what did I think he should do. I told him to get rid of it so he took it to the Captain who mailed it to our local police department so my friend could pick it up when he got home. Needless to say he, my wife and I were very relieved.
Fast forward to our disembarkation on the island. My friend goes though inspection first and the chick asks him if he has any guns with him. He said, "No, I handed mine in on the ferry but I don't know about him", pointing to me with a big smile on his fat face. I was flabbergasted! Three inspectors started taking my bike apart right there on the spot. Clothes, plastic and stuff all over the parking lot! I didn't talk to that SOB for three days! True story.

what good would it be to you under the fairing. A mugger comes up and you ask him to wait 5 minutes you brake out the screwdriver and take the fairing off so you can get to the gun.

Apparently, you don't really know the risk you're taking. If you did, you wouldn't be asking this question. They can and will find a gun no matter where you hide it on the bike. Dogs can sniff it out without any problem.
If your concern is that you just have to carry your gun in Alaska, then ship it to your hotel up there, carry it around, and then ship it back home before you go back through Canada.
OK smart a$$ under the fairing just for the crossing I starting to get the picture here I just like to make an informed decision. I think I will just leave it at home and take my chances with the bears Thanks for all the input.
