harleypingman/philm: the mounting kit for the fbi fender replaces all of those multi-angle pieces and bolts at the rear frame area. the kit includes new mounting points for the saddlebags, so you dont need all of those wierd take off points. it really cleans up the frame area at that point, just one flat piece and several bolts. the fender actually goes over the frame rails from the seat all the way back to the bottom. therefore, the grab rail and everything else goes away. look at pic below as i think it will somewhat illustrate what i am trying to say.
as for the frustrating part. i already had billet wheels with 150 series tire on the back. i happened across the fender and mounting kit at a ridiculous discount and the wife got me the license/taillight bracket for christmas. so i actually have very little invested. what i couldnt rationalize was paying a couple thousand bucks just to move up to the 200 series tire and rim. just not enough difference to justify it. but with the wider swingarm comes the offset for the shocks. because i wasnt doing that, i had to take that into account and make 'adjustments' to the fender to make sure the heads of the shocks didn't bust into the fender. plus getting the mounting holes done right with this fender is another adventure in of itself...lol like i said, it was a good learning experience. also, if anyone else decides to do this, let me know and i will give you the good to know info on mounting the taillight/license bracket. tips go a loooong way on that part of the install...lol
