I hate to keep beating a dead horse. I had drags with no baffles on my Sportie and it sounded awesome even without the tune. My Ultra has the intake and the tune with V&H slipons. I was told removing the baffles would not only void my warranty, but create other problems. I had no problems riding my 07 1200. What's the real story. I'm just not happy with the sound of the pipes.
There is a recent post from someone modifying their stock pipes. He drilled a 3/4" hole in both of them and supposedly likes em.
Me, I ordered the Jackpot Dyno Tuned from Fuel Moto. Today is the first day since install that I could ride. I absolutely love them. I am going to do a small write up, but they are freaking awesome. 2500-3000, still hear radio at half volume. Twist the crank and they open up. Idle, sounds like a true HD. Not too loud, not too quiet. I was skeptical as they looked like straight through pipes, only a little baffling on the sides and one side restricted down to ~3/4" at the headpipe. After riding, I would recommend to anyone. Incredible and only cost $299.
Love them and will post about these guys as long as I am on this forum. Great group to deal with.
The biggest difference is you had drag pipes on your Sportster. They have a smaller ID (inside dimension) then pipes designed to use baffles.
My Rip Saws (drag pipes) were 1-5/8" ID, which worked fine with my 103" engine. When you take baffles out of regular pipes, that were designed for baffles, the ID of the pipe is too large. You lose too much back pressure, which results in very poor performance, in the low to mid rpm range.

If your gonna go straight you need to get torque cones that goes into the header pipes or order some bigcitythunder baffels that go on the end of your header pipe or in the muffler. They have two choices. Running straight pipes screw up your performance and will lead to more problems. You need some kind of back pressure. Running straight is like running a water hose with no nozzle. It just runs with no pressure. Hook the right nozzle and you'll get the right pressure. If noise is what your going for hook up with torque cones. Easy fix that cost 50-75 bucks. Want a little more performance with that rich bad a$$ sound, hook up with the bigcitythunder.com
I have the Torque cones on my chopper. They work good, I have a lot of power but I have been thinkin of going to a two into one setup though. It was fun having it loud as hell but now I want to quiet it down a bit.
