I have an RK Custom and to me it looks like the hard bags hold more than either the Custom or classic.

I have a classic. The difference in size between the custom and classic is not a lot, but the classic bag is larger. Not sure about any hard bags as I did not research any of them.

My half helmet can fit in my Classic bag and I bet there is room for a second. My friend can't get one in his hard bag.

My half helmet also fits in my bags on my custom, I might be able to fit a second-haven't tried and it would definitely be a tight fit. I went on a ride with three buddies that I met right here on this forum. Between the four of us we had all 3 RK's and 1 SG. We checked out each others bags to see who had more room. And we all seemed to be of the opinion that the hard bags were deeper and also had room in the lids that could be utilized with one of those lid organizers, hence what looked like more room. We also noticed that if you tried to stuff something in the hard bags and it bulged a little, you could not close the lid. Where as on a soft bagger (Custom or Classic) they can bulge a little and the lid will still close and lock. So I guess if you pack neatly with no oversized materials and have a lid organizer, you will probably get the most usable space with hard bags. But if you pack all crappy and just shove jackets, helmets and cameras and such and stretch your bags like I do, then leather bags might be better for you.

In the end I would think you would be better off just getting what bike you like the looks of the best (as they all ride just about the same) and make the best use out the the bags. You can always buy a tour pack if really needed. I have one in my gallery if you need to see how it looks on a custom.

Found a web page that gives details regarding motorcycles; www.totalmotorcycle.com. It show the hard bags have a capacity of 2.26 cu. ft

and the Classic has 1.86 cu. ft.
