Default RKC Accessory Switch

I have a 2009 RKC with a PCV installed. I love the POWER that the PCV provides, but I want to install a map switch so I can develop a fuel mileage map for long trips. I want to use the accessory switch on the bike to accomplish this. I decided that I would disconnect the wiring from the back of the accessory switch and run a new wire from it to the PCV so that I can use it as the map switch. I thought that I could get to the wiring from underneath, but there isnt a whole lot of room to get my fingers up there to disconnect the wiring and install the new wiring. Does anybody know if its easier to get to if I remove the handlebar clamp shroud and try to get at it from the top?
