Default Radio Problems

How long can I expect the Harmon Kardon to last in my 08 SG ?
Only had it for 13 months and it's starting to lock up and skip while playing CD's.
Never had a bike with a CD/AM FM before.... it's kind of nice on a cruise.

Most of the 06's had issue resolved by software updates, or outright replacements. Since then, as far as I have seen the radios have been pretty reliable so I would say this is "luck" of the draw-nothing more

The CD player will skip if its inserts are cold--with 3-4 degrees of freezing. As the amp section of the radio heats up, it softens the rubber "shocks" in the CD player--and skipping normally stops.

Dealer should be able to take care of this real quick if yoour not in the freeze like I am

Hey Screws

You should visit the tech zone of my website and read up on the software updates for 06+ radios. You can determine which software is in your radio with this easy read, and if need be, put the software update on a CD and do the upload yourself. This can make a major improvement in the way your 06 radio works!

www.hogtunes.com is the addy. Drop me an email if you have questions---

Pez,

I've been having intermittant problems with my '06 Street Glide. Apparently somtimes the radio is registering an "Open Speaker" error. Will any of the software upgrades address this?

Also, do you know if a new set of speakers (like HOGTUNES) will do the trick, or do I have to get it sent in to Mother MoCo for an internal fix to the radio head?

Thanks!!!!

Had mine at the dealer 3 times.Every time they can find nothing wrong.
This time they went as far as to send the radio back to the factory. Got a call
yesterday to come back to the dealer to get my radio installed. They could
find nothing wrong at the factory either. Been trying not to lose my cool, but
this was too much. The unit might be fine for a couple of months, then it will
skip or not play the lower # tracks. The screen usually blanks out when the bike is
started.Guess I'm going to call the MOCO this week.I'm also looking for the phone # to
Harmon Kardon.

07 Ultra w same radio/CD/CB....HKardon. On a few occasions, my face panel will illuminate, evrything works, sound will come throught but cant see anything. Ruled out fuse..After a couple of minutes or a small bump, (dont know which yet) it will light up and display as it should.
Dealer siad they could install a "remanufactured" unit..

Our07Ultra,

I believe the face panel issue is well known. I've read more than a few instances. If your bike is still under warranty I think it should be covered.

Leadman,

I've called. H-K won't touch it unless it comes from Harley-Davidson (Harmon-Kardon HQ is only about an hour from where I live), H-K doesn't even list the Harley Advanced Radio as a product in any of their Customer Service literature.
