My 08 FLHT came with the security system stock. It was not listed on the invoice or on the price tag. I bought the siren and the pager. put them on myself. What was your build date? Mine was 02/08. I would recomend the pager if you plan on staying in motels.
Security was an option just like ABS. The one the local dealer had was the color I wanted but did not have the security module. The one right beside it did but it was the "wrong" color. I don't think it has anything to do with build dates. Mine had cruise but no security the other bike had security but no cruise. Now I have added security, a stereo, two more gauges, some chrome with skulls (well more than some), detachable mounting points, driver backrest, detachable king tourpak, detachable backrest and luggage rack and XIEDS. I am thinking of adding the FuelMoto PCV package next and maybe I'll be done. (I doubt it!)
Thanks for the advice on the pager. I think that is a very good idea. It might even help here at work. I don't think anyone bothers my bike but you never know.
The siren has two wires , a red and a black. You remove left side cover you'll see a wiring harness plug type. I put the red to the brown wire, and the black to the green. This will work on an 2008 for sure. Runs off the battery. Chirps once when starting or turning bike off. Goes crazy if activated. I have it held in place with a small piece of velcro.
Does the Radio Shack part plug right in or did you have to do some wiring for it to work. Does it work off of it's own battery"
No, it isn't plug-and-play. I cut the stock wires, kept the old connector, and crimped blade connectors on each wire. If the siren craps out I can re-connect a new one fairly quickly with new blade connectors. It works off the bike's 12V system just like the HD siren, but the RS unit doesn't have the ability to add the wireless remote. I'll never buy the remote so it doesn't matter to me.
The tutorial is on the DIY sticky thread. I'll try to find it and post a link.
Edit: Oops, just noticed Jrsess already posted the correct wiring, but if anyone wants to read the tutorial it is here, about 2/3 of the way down the page. Be advised that the connector on '07's is under the right side cover. After much deliberation I ended up velcroing my siren in the upper right corner.
I am thinking of adding the FuelMoto PCV package next and maybe I'll be done. (I doubt it!)
You need to be re-programmed. There is no such thing as "done." Now, repeat that 100 times and you'll be absolved. Remember, he who dies with the most accessories wins.
Has anyone ever come up with the answer for Chirpless mode for the Smart Siren II, I know the manual has a procedure but can't get it to work and have searched and have not found anyone else who got it to work. This is for the Smart Siren II only.
BTW I also installed the Smart Siren II and Pager yesterday and it's plug and play couldn't be easier except for the tight fit.
